"Great quality carpet. Nice people installed the carpet. Salesman who came to do the estimate was not friendly at all. I'm someone who relies on the estimate. However, the final bill was much higher than the estimate with absolutely no explanation given. Really too bad because I really like the guy who owns the place. I will go with someone else next time."

"VERY WELL -- I could not be happier. Tom helped me pick the correct flooring based on what i wanted for my house. He was very fast in getting an onsite estimate, scheduling the work, following through with how things were going. Any follow-up needs I had were addressed extremely quickly. <br /> The installers, Jerry and Josh Schumacher were AWESOME -- I have had less than satisfactory experiences with other service people, but these guys were everything I could ask for. They had tremendous experience in installing the flooring correctly and in a quality manner. They took great consideration in asking any questions of me, so I knew ahead of time of any potential problems we might encounter (i.e. previous installation leftovers), helped me move furniture that they didn't have to, and they didn't forget ANYTHING. I didn't have to run around and remind them of this or that to be done. I could leave the house and know I could trust them. They were respectful of my property, my time (very prompt), and my cats :-). <br /> I had solicited estimates from a third-party installer from a 'big box' store, who never called me back. I am so glad he didn't, because I turned to Schumacher's and it was the best thing I've done in a long time. I am very grateful to them for making this experience as hassle-free as possible. <br /> When I get my house back in order (I'm slow), I hope to take pictures so others can see how awesome tile linoleum looks throughout a house. My friends and family are already in awe of how great the floor looks (they were skeptical of my idea of putting tile linoleum throughout the house -- they aren't anymore :-)). <br /> I would recommend this company to ANYONE needing any type of flooring assistance. <br /> <br />"

"We had a very small job - to have durable tile installed in our small foyer. Most building professionals (I <br />  have found the hard way) do not like small jobs.  But this salesman treated us so well - he offered advise and suggestions throughout the entire ordering process and yet let us come to our own decision.  We could have been buying for a 4000 sq. foot house. <br /> Very impressed and would highly recommend. <br /> <br />"

"The sales person at the show room did a great job helping me find the perfect carpet and flooring for our needs. She ended up putting together about 6 different estimates so we could balance cost of the different options. The cost was significantly lower than the other carpet store that I looked at. I ended up getting a carpet I really love. <br /> The gentleman who came to measure my living room and bathrooms was a little late. However, all the workers after that arrived on time, did excellent work, and cleaned up after themselves. They even vacuumed the little pieces of carpet after installation. The gentleman who did our flooring took the time to talk to me about different product to repair our basement floor in preparation for linoleum installation. <br /> This is the 2nd time I have used Randys and I've been extremely satisfied. I am planning to have more work done in a few weeks and will definitely use Randys. <br />"

"Our purple carpet had about 100 urine stains from previous dogs and our own. The specialist, Robert, matched to color and treated every spot. If we didn't know where they were, we'd never know they spots had been there. Perfect job!"

"I used them because last year I had them cutting into a brick wall and a stone retaining wall foundation. This year they are cutting into the rough to do the darmer so I wanted somebody. This year, being retired, I watched both their men and their sub-contractors. The attention to detail and making sure that things are done right. I commented to some of the sub-contractors and they said, Sattler's are pretty anal about making sure things are done right. I was impressed, nobody goofed off even without a supervisor here. <br /> I only had a couple of issues. One was the plumber installed the chrome showerhead instead of the nickel platted showerhead. So, I called them and said I don't want to be billed additional, I didn't get what I wanted. They said, you are supposed to get what you want and they had him come out and change it. It was probably just a miscommunication between the supply company failing to give the plumber the correct information. They came out at their own expense and repaired it. The company that did the driveway, I said I would like the driveway to slope away from the garage a little bit because I sometimes get water back underneath the door and then it freezes. The guy noticed that a piece of cement pad that was really a part of the garage floor but was it's own little, he said that's your problem. That's sloping the wrong way. Again, without any additional charge he saw what the problem was, removed that piece and installed new so that I now don't have that issue so this winter it won't freeze, the water won't freeze the garage door shut. They paid attention. When I said, I have an issue, they looked and said, there's your issue, there's your problem, we'll fix that."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Cedar Rapids, IA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
