"We purchased a deal from Angie's List for $119.  There was a disclaimer that masonry & gas inserts had an additional charge, so I was prepared to pay a little more, and I did.  They scheduled the appointment, and I was called when they were about 10 minutes away.  The assistant came in and prepped the area, putting down drapes and setting up the vacuum device.  Then Tim came in and did most of the work.  We have an 87-year-old house and the knob to open our flue was not working well.  Tim tried to adjust it, and eventually needed some lubricant from us in order to get it to function better. I believe he left some of the chimney sweeping job to his assistant.  They cleaned up, and left.
A couple of weeks later, my husband was trying to adjust the flue.  He realized that the mechanism needed to be replaced. He felt that C&A's should have fixed it while they were here, but I explained that we had only purchased the chimney sweep and inspection, not repair of a faulty mechanism.  While he was taking the mechanism apart, he looked up the chimney with the flashlight, and realized that there were still lots of sticks & twigs in the chimney.  I called C&A's the next day to have them come back out and finish the job.  When the owner's wife called back, she tried to say that the sticks were most likely from squirrels or other rodents pushing things in (despite our chimney cap and in less than 2 weeks since the job was done) because they had never had this complaint before.  She spoke with her husband, and he was nice enough to come out the next day, but explained there might be an additional chanrge.  Sure enough, the chimney cap was in place, and there was still a bunch of stuff in our chimney.  He worked for a good 30 additional minutes clearing the obstruction.  The implied explanation was that the assistant must have been the one who didn't complete the job in the first place.
Instead of waiting another month for Tim to replace the flue mechanism, my husband ordered parts on line, and got the knob replaced in less than a week.  (I am lucky that I am married to someone handy enough to do this repair himself)
While they got the job done finally, I was disappointed in the response to my complaint about the job.  I know it is hard to diagnose a problem over the phone, but I sure didn't get the feeling that "the Customer is always right"

Mr. John Sherlock arrived at the time and date specified to give us an estimate.  He returned the following day with his assistant and performed the job in one day.  He installed 26 copper lightning rods on the flat roof of our 7,000 square foot home.  These rods were connected with 500 feet of heavy duty copper cable and were grounded at three points with ground rods going down through the drainpipes into the ground. All parts of the system were securely attached to the roof.  He did a neat job and cleaned up all excess materials.  We were very pleased with the job him did.  Since installation of the lightning rod system we have had no trouble with lightning striking the house or causing power outages or surges.
