"Several months ago we replaced flooring the entire lower level of our house. We picked out absolutely beautiful LVP from Onondaga Flooring. Loved the floor. Heard great things from people about this company. Shopped several flooring company's. Got many estimates. Begged my husband for this floor, with this company, because they 'are the best.' Well, the contractors they sent, sent one young guy to install. He was fairly new he said. Does this on the side. The job was supposed to take 2/3 days. It took a week. No big deal, had it been installed well. The poor guy was overwhelmed. His cuts were imperfect. The floor wasn't set well in some placed. I complained to OF. They contractor boss came and repaired what he could. There are still areas that were not done well. The $7000 floor was left dirty. Shavings and grime everywhere. We had many better estimates. I pleaded with my husband to go with the floor I loved, with the company that was highly recommended. I'm still unhappy and it's been 6 months."

"This is a story about a carpet cleaning company that needs to clean up its act. If my experience is any measure of how they do business, my advice would be to look elsewhere for rug and carpet cleaning services. To make a long story short, they charged me for services I never authorized, and then held my rug hostage until I paid to get it back from them. They also wasted a lot of my time. Longer version: I spoke twice with a woman named Vanessa about how much it would cost to clean an 8.5 x 12 oriental rug which appeared in excellent shape, had no noticeable odors, and seemed only to need a basic refresh/cleaning. She gave me a base estimate of around $350-450, but said it would cost more if their analysis detected pet stains or other issues. In both of the phone calls I had with Vanessa before the rug was picked up, not once did she disclose that I would be charged for anything associated with ABC Carpet’s “analysis” process. When I was then given an outrageous estimate of $1,098 to clean an 8.5 x 12 rug with no evident problems, I rejected their services and asked for the rug to be returned. I was then told I would be responsible for paying $173 for a disinfectant process they used on the rug upon its arrival, allegedly due to it showing “beetle damage.” No issues were visible to the naked eye before it was sent in, but Vanessa said beetle damage was becoming a more common problem in our area, possibly due to climate change, and that this could only be seen under their special black lights. She claimed that disinfecting our rug had been necessary in order to protect other rugs in their care. This raises a couple questions. First, why is it the customer’s responsibility to pay major charges because ABC Carpet does not have adequate measures in place to keep one rug’s issues from affecting others they have on hand for cleaning? Second, if this growing problem of beetle damage is a real thing, as Vanessa claims it is, why wasn’t it disclosed ahead of time that I would be charged a hefty fee for disinfection if beetle damage were discovered during the analysis process? After a time-consuming back and forth that did nothing but increase my misgivings about this company, it became clear that I was not going to get my rug back unless I paid ABC Carpet’s ransom. Now that I have the rug back, and I am out $173, I am sharing this story so that others can make a more informed decision about dealing with this company."

"Proceed with extreme caution. I had my entire first floor redone and it seemed to be going well until the final coat. There are bumps all over the entire floor vs. a very smooth finish. I had them try and fix it and their attempt made it worse now I will need to have it completely redone. Their sander also made the floor uneven in various areas. It's unfortunate because they were nice personable guys, but their attention to detail suffered at the end."

Chem-Dry's unique approach to carpet cleaning provides a better experience. Chem-Dry uses the power of carbonation to extract more dirt and grime from your carpets, giving them a deeper clean. As well, our carbonated cleaning substances only require us to use a fraction of the moisture steam cleaners require. This allows your carpets to dry quicker and helps prevent the growth of mold and mildew under your carpet. Chem-Dry's signature cleaning solution, The Natural®, is a cleaning mixture that, through the power of carbonation, lifts dirt to the surface where it is whisked away. The Natural is non-toxic and ideal for homes with kids and pets, and recently received the Green Certification. Cost is determined by the job.

"Just finished up a few projects with Doug. What started as 3 or 4 things to be done, ended up turning into a few more, and I was so impressed with his work. I am in the process of selling my house, so when more issues came up, he was great about working within my timeline. I found Doug to be EXTREMELY responsive, and so willing to address the additional needs as they came up. I found him to be so easy to work with, and very professional. He knows his stuff! Quality workmanship. I would highly recommend his service. I would give him a 10 out of 10!!!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Central Square, NY

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
