"I hired Mike to rewire and replace the outlets in my home as well as install brand new lighting, outlets and switches in the finished attic. His workmanship is nothing short of exceptional. It's plain to see that Mike is a professional who cares about his work, and more importantly his clients. His pricing is also very competitive. No need to worry about mile-long contracts and being charged hourly on top of exorbitant fees etc. If you are looking for any kind of electrical work to be done in your home, I highly recommend you give Mike a call or text. I guarantee your experience will be as good as mine was! "

"Brandon responded to my call immediately. He set up a time to meet and his co-worker Will showed up promptly as scheduled. He installed a 4 prong 220 outlet. He is very honest because he saved me $100 by using the existing wire when i thought he would need to run new wire. Both Brandon and Will were very professional and took the time to explain what they were doing. I would recommend Phillips Electrical without hesitation."

"Carmen came right away when called, I wanted my electrical service to be upgraded to 200Amps. He was very professional, and the work came out phenomenal. I called him a week later to put in a Tesla charger station. I couldnâ  t be more happy with the outcome. HIGHLY recommended."

"Jason is an incredible electrician with honesty and integrity. I?ve enjoyed hiring on multiple projects and recommended him to others. The unit below us took out knob and tube and installed a subpanel. When they had to sell, the home inspector took a picture of Jason?s panel as an example of what one should look like. You should feel very comfortable hiring him. "

"The first time I had Wilmer over was to inspect and perform my yearly maintenance. He was very informative and helped me to understand how the whole process actually worked. His prices and professional manner we're more than acceptable. A few years later my AC would not turn on. And I looked to see if there is any fuses inside the house that may have been blown to cause this. I could find none. I called Wilmer and when he came over not only did he do an overview of the functionality of the components of my inside HVAC system, to see if that might have been the problem, but he also checked it from the outside. That is when he noticed that a raccoon had chewed through some of the outside wires in an attempt to get into my attic. Wilmer replaced and tested the new wiring thus fixing the issue,. Again, his prices and professional manner we're more than acceptable. And I had a cool house later that afternoon"

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Charlestown, MA

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
