Customers say: Quick response

"Our driveway is around a 1/4 mile long and winds its way through a beautiful woodland area. We searched for a paving contractor with an excellent reputation and after receiving several estimates we selected O. Cooper. We were unable to physically be onsite to go over the project but that didn't matter as Billy suggested we meet via FaceTime. He arrived at the property on time, and we were able to walk the project virtually discussing our vision and expectations. He promptly provided us with a very detailed estimate of the work to be performed along with a price quote. Once onsite we were impressed with the obvious preparation, coordination, and execution of the project. We are so pleased with the way the driveway turned out and are grateful to O. Cooper for doing such a professional job. We can't say enough. I would recommend O. Cooper Asphalt Paving without any hesitation. Oh, one last thing the scheduler was awesome too!"

"We decided to have our driveway paved this year after completing a detached garage. It is over 500 feet, with a large hill, and we also needed the area between the house and garage finished. Jeff was very responsive and came out to take a look at the site within a few days. We knew it would be a few month before the job would be completed. His crew was very professional and completed the work in one day in November. It was quite an investment, but we are very glad we chose to replace the gravel driveway, which needed continual maintenance. There were no changes to the original estimate and the finished driveway looks fantastic. Would definitely recommend C&G to anyone who needs paving work."

"J Warden and Sons has over 40 yrs experience and equipment to do anything. I called them based on a referral and Gene called me back that afternoon. That same evening he came over to to a site inspection and talk about what my concerns were for the project (which I had) I had just finished building a small garage in my back yard and we had to attached the new driveway to the apron, Level off several areas including one in particular. Then install 2 small retaining walls next to the home for a nice 'Finished look' <br /> I have never written a review before. Usually you get what you pay for and move on. I had a particular vision in mind when I explained the project to Gene Warden and he exceeded my expectations. (hence my first written review) Gene is a third generation paver, representing the company well. Gene's demeanor, willingness to cooperation was such a breath of fresh air. His workers were punctual, professional, demonstrating the attention to detail I requested even though it was a much smaller job than they were accustom too. They also do concrete, seal coating and Hardscapes (which they a particularity so good at it is taking his business to another level. I witnessed this. <br /> I will refer business to Gene at J Warden and Sons in the future. Dependable, Honest with great workers that care and have integrity you can see. Yes, he might be old school but where I come from a handshake goes a long way. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Royal Paving was able to give me a free, next-day quote after I called them. Once we accepted the contract they came out the day after it stopped raining (it had been raining for almost a week straight, they advised a full day of sunlight for our gravel driveway to fully dry before beginning the project). They graded and paved our driveway with 3 inches of asphalt. They were punctual, communicated well with me, and got the job done within a day and now we have the best looking driveway on the neighborhood! Definitely recommend. These guys are what every small business should try to be. Also, our driveway is about 30 feet long and on a hill."

"After the driveway was resurfaced, we started having some water in the garage. Had the strips at the bottom of doors replaced, but the contractor said it was coming from the driveway. Much later, we realized that water was coming in behind a wall in the basement. A contractor pointed out how water was coming off the driveway. <br /> In August of 2014, we contacted Gator Paving and they sent someone out to take a look. We were told that the driveway had been done correctly and that there was nothing they could do for us. However, they did recommend that we hire them to "seal" the original work. <br /> Since that time, we have had several people out and the general consensus is that we will have to have a trench/drain installed across the driveway. To say that we are disappointed would be an understatement--we thought we were hiring a top-notch company. <br />"

"I worked with Mark Beauchamp to scope out the design of the driveway and walkways. He was great to deal with and was very responsive and attentive to our design ideas.  <br /> The StreetPrint® crew, headed by Manny Pacheco, was just fantastic. They worked together like a finely-tuned machine, were very meticulous in their work, and put in a lot of effort to make sure everything looked perfect. Not only are they artists at what they do, but they are also a friendly, courteous, considerate, and charming bunch of guys! We enjoyed them tremendously while getting a beautiful new driveway and walkways.  <br /> <br />"

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Charlottesville, VA

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
