"Doug Courtney is courteous and attentive; his crew skilled and conscientious. They installed a drainage system and 40.5ft x 23ft concrete pad which wraps around a 24ft x 12ft shed. It took 2 days to complete this job, one to prepare the site, the other to pour and finish the concrete. One of the first things to impress me was their punctuality - arriving early they would do a little equipment prep work and then proceed to the job site on time. The pad is nicely finished and properly pitched, funneling water into the drain and moving the rest away from the shed.
This experience has convinced me to hire Courtney Masonry for a larger project this spring, and a couple of other projects I have in mind for the future.

"We tackled this job with much trepidation. The masonite siding we had in the rear and on the sides of the house was old, had been repaired multiple times, much of it replaced and it still looked awful. Our home, closing in on the half-century mark, is in an upscale neighborhood, and I debated and researched wood, cement board, and vinyl. I knew what look I wanted, and while money is always important, what I wanted most was work that would be in keeping with the integrity of our home and neighborhood. We met with several contractors, but Sandro from Sam's Siding stood out. He was endlessly patient. He was pleasant and not pushy. He made valid suggestions, but didn't try to force any one product. I emailed him several times after our initial meeting with questions. Then I went and looked at work his company had done. Not just one job, but several. His quote was reasonable. After meeting with him, and reading his company's reviews and then checking out his work, we were sold on Sam's Siding. They did a wonderful job. My home has never looked better. I chose a vinyl shake close to the color of my home, but still not an exact match, so I wanted to have the entire home painted at the same time, along with a tool shed, pergola, and pool house. I was so happy to find Sam also offers painting. I am so picky when it comes to painting. The prep work is everything, and Sam's Siding does their prep work. I was thrilled to see them carefully caulking and taping. They were so careful on the windows and trim. This paint job is the best one my old house has ever had. Sam's Siding started on time and stayed on the job until finished. The workers were very pleasant. Sometimes, I get a little nervous with workers around the house, but these men were very nice. Sam or his brother checked on the job continuously. When I had questions or concerns, they were immediately addressed to my satisfaction. I could not be more pleased, and I can't recommend them highly enough."

"The job turned out GREAT. From the time of the first estimate, through the finish of the job, the company was first rate. All workers were on time, polite and courteous when on the premises. The owner helped w/ suggestions that were insightful and helpful. They finished ahead of schedule and stayed below budget, that's right I said below budget! The company / owner provided constant updates and kept me abreast of all pending situations / issues. I would highly recommend this company and personally plan to use them again in the future."

FAQs for shed, barn or playhouse building service projects in Cherryville, NC

Most sheds larger than six feet by eight feet require a foundation to remain level and dry. A compact tool shed might get by without one, but anything heavier should sit on at least a 4-inch-thick stone-and-gravel pad that extends two feet past the walls. The gravel protects wood skids and promotes drainage. If you want maximum stability—and your budget allows—a poured concrete slab is the strongest option.

Your ideal shed size hinges on purpose. A common 10-by-12-foot kit gives you 120 square feet—plenty for lawn tools and bikes. Need just a spot for a mower and a few rakes? A compact 4-by-7-foot model should work. If you’re envisioning a workshop or hobby room, look at 12-by-16 feet or larger.

A good rule is to raise the shed floor four to six inches above the surrounding soil. That clearance encourages water to drain away instead of pooling beneath the structure. The simple step is especially important for wood floors and skids, helping deter rot, mold, and insect damage while extending the life of your new outbuilding.

Choose the route that fits your goals. Prefab sheds arrive in standard layouts and go up fast—perfect for basic storage on a tight timeline. Custom builds cost more and take longer, but let you add windows, wiring, plumbing, and unique finishes. Balance budget, features, and timeframe before deciding which type of shed is best for your needs.
