"After a long search, I found Adam Contracting LLC. He promptly responded to my request on the Angie's List app. He had the most reasonable price and was able to fit us in on the date and time we wanted. He always responded promptly and showed up exactly on time. They had all of the equipment they needed, conducted their work professionally, were courteous and very capable. After completed their work, they cleaned up, vacuumed and spent time discussing the work completed. After contractors that either wouldn't call back, were seriously over priced or not able to do the job, Adam Contracting was a great find. I highly encourage you contact Adam and see if he can take care of your needs."

"Great job by Manny’s! This 1 bedroom condo had dirty walls, holes and hadn’t been painted in a decade. Manny gave a reasonable estimate for the job and when it took a little longer and required more paint, he didn’t charge more. Now the condo looks like a modern beauty! Manny communicated by text and email, and he was flexible and accommodated my client’s needs who is out of state. I am a real estate agent and I will recommend Manny’s to all my clients!"

"I have worked with Mason and his excellent crew on several projects…a basement dig-out renovation, a kitchen renovation, brick repointing, four bathroom gut/renos, and a living room/dining room gut and renovation. Obviously, I value his thoughtful cogent input, his excellent crew of various superb artisans, and his "brace and suspenders” thoroughness, or I would not have come back to work with him so many times! He is instantly available and totally reliable. The results of the work speak for themselves… these rooms are perfect and perfectly put together. I would not consider working with any other company. His excellence has spoiled me:)"

"Scheduling of the appointment was easy and quick. The technician was prompt and very knowledgeable. I actually paid additional to have the 2nd garage door serviced. The technican identified an issue with my current opener. I would definitely consider them for any garage door / opener purchase/replacement or repair.

"Definitely would hire again. The business owner submitted a detailed invoice to let us know what to expect for the job. When I had questions about the project I received very detailed answers. I felt comfortable that the company understood our project and how to handle building the shed. The installer, Pete, was very knowledgeable about how to handle the project. Upon completion the area was left clean and spotless."

"Vince called me back within hours of my sending him a message through Angie's List.  Even though he does not list Montgomery County as one of his service areas, he was completely willing to help us out.  In my message, I had requested the work to be done onsite but Vince explained why having him pick up the generator and take it back to his shop to work on it would make more sense.  His charge for pick-up and delivery back to us was only $34.95.
When Vince came to pick up the generator, he was on time and was able to give me a ballpark cost for the work (which turned out to be very accurate).  He said that he could get it back to us in 3-4 days but I asked if he could do it faster as there was a snow storm predicted for the next day or so.  Vince agreed to a shorter time line and ultimately got the generator back to us within 1 day!  There ended up being no snow storm but we got our generator back in working condition - along with a booklet of care instructions, a copy of our invoice, and a service history form.  A few days later we received a hand-written Thank You card in appreciation of our business.  I can't imagine how the service could have been any better.  We will use Vince for any future small engine repairs/maintenance we have and highly recommend him and his services.

FAQs for shed, barn or playhouse building service projects in Washington DC, DC

Most sheds larger than six feet by eight feet require a foundation to remain level and dry. A compact tool shed might get by without one, but anything heavier should sit on at least a 4-inch-thick stone-and-gravel pad that extends two feet past the walls. The gravel protects wood skids and promotes drainage. If you want maximum stability—and your budget allows—a poured concrete slab is the strongest option.

Your ideal shed size hinges on purpose. A common 10-by-12-foot kit gives you 120 square feet—plenty for lawn tools and bikes. Need just a spot for a mower and a few rakes? A compact 4-by-7-foot model should work. If you’re envisioning a workshop or hobby room, look at 12-by-16 feet or larger.

A good rule is to raise the shed floor four to six inches above the surrounding soil. That clearance encourages water to drain away instead of pooling beneath the structure. The simple step is especially important for wood floors and skids, helping deter rot, mold, and insect damage while extending the life of your new outbuilding.

Choose the route that fits your goals. Prefab sheds arrive in standard layouts and go up fast—perfect for basic storage on a tight timeline. Custom builds cost more and take longer, but let you add windows, wiring, plumbing, and unique finishes. Balance budget, features, and timeframe before deciding which type of shed is best for your needs.
