Small jobs welcome

"I contacted Matt last minute for my townhome inspection and he was very quick to reply and accommodate my request. He was very thorough and walked me through the whole inspection (which took a little over 2 hours) and answered every single questions I had and gave me some suggestions as well. I am an agent and have worked with a few inspectors, but none of them were as thorough as Matt. I HIGHLY recommend him & will definitely be using him for all future inspections."

"Tim was on time and finished early. Nice, neat install. I can't be absolutely sure how accurate my radon detector is but before the install the highest short- term reading I saw was 7.94. After the install I haven't gone over 2 and usually is 1.5 or lower."

"Working with BRT on our home inspection and radon test was incredibly easy and very competitively priced. Dave was very easy to get a hold of and was able to schedule us quickly. He is very knowledgeable about homes and construction in general. He not only showed me certain issues with the house but also explained which items I could fix myself and where to buy the parts. He differentiated the items that couldn't be "DIY-ed" and offered to provide (didn't push) contacts for these items. The best value with BRT is the fact that they can couple a radon test with their home inspection. Most home inspectors sub-contract their radon tests with different companies. This not only adds time to your inspection (cutting into your inspection review period) but also costs a lot more money (I quoted 5 different home inspectors and BRT was the most competitive). To top it all off, Dave is a personable guy who is very easy to get along with and has plenty of experiences to share. I would highly recommend Dave and BRT to anyone getting a home inspection (especially if you're getting a radon test too)."

"Dedric was wonderful. I had scheduled the previous afternoon, paid and signed contracts all prior to his arrival. He arrived prior to my own early arrival and was already inspecting the outside of the home. Very considerate of everyone’s time. He was very kind, knowledgeable, and thorough with his inspection. Pointing out things and explaining when it wasn’t understood. It was very apparent to me that Dedric truly cares to service his clients. He knows the work he does is so important in making a big decision and it is appreciated the diligence he puts in to his work. We got our home inspection report in less than 24 hours. Thank you Dedric!"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Chicago, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
