"(UPDATED REVIEW)Another company referred me to Zoom Drain when I had a sudden backup into the basement. It was an emergency and the Zoom team arrived quickly. It was clear that there was a blockage (wipes — don't flush them!!!) and that the house drain and curb trap were dislocated and would have to be dug up and replaced. For the immediate problem -- unblocking the drain temporarily so the house could be inhabited -- they offered a choice of the cheaper snaking and the more expensive hydrojet treatment, which they said would leave the pipe clean. Of course I took that. It didn't clear the drain and they didn't try the snake, saying that it wouldn't fit through from inside. I paid $563 for this failed job, figuring that the clog was impossible to clear. They said the $563 could be applied to the cost of digging up and rebuilding the drain and trap, and gave me an estimate for $13,000 emergency service (or $10,000 if I could wait until the next week). Thinking it could be worth another try, I called a local plumber, Goodman. They snaked it from the inside and unblocked the clog. They said it didn't make sense to jet first in my situation and explained why you would snake first and then escalate. They charged me $165, and also gave me an estimate for the repair job that was less than half of Zoom's. Though I didn't end up using them, it was at least in line with what I now know is the normal price. The application of the $563 to a $10,000 bill would still have been around $6000 too high! Now, I want to mention that the Zoom workers seemed very nice. Maybe they're just following instructions from the company. I just don't appreciate the practices of a business that seems to take advantage of the customer's desperation in an unfamiliar situation to upcharge them and overcharge them, at least judging by my experience. UPDATE: Zoom Drain has apologized for my experience and refunded me the full charge. I have adjusted the letter grades accordingly."

"I called Martin Appliance to get them to check my washer which smelled like it was burning. They had a cancellation so were able to get us in the same day! Curt arrived right on time. He took apart the washer and determined that the burning smell and noise were caused by a broken drum. He advised us it would make more sense to buy another since the cost of parts and service was high. He then determined the actual cost of the parts so we could make an informed decision. <br /> We took the opportunity to query Curt about repair and reliability of new washers. He gave us his advice based on his repair experience. He then told us that Martin sold appliances and had some great prices. He also gave us a 30.00 discount coupon in case we chose to buy there. He put the washer back together for us and left. It was a quick visit, but he did all we needed. <br /> I did online research and we went shopping that night. We did end up purchasing from Martin, and picked up a matching dryer as well. They turned out to have the best price on the brand and model we had chosen. Randy was our salesman and he was able to answer all our questions. I also appreciated that he was not pushy. I would not have looked at Martin w/out the suggestion from Curt since you had to sign up and email to get prices from their website. I am glad we took the time to stop by. <br /> The appliances will be delivered Monday and the old washer taken away and disposed of at no extra cost. We have never purchased an appliance so quickly before. My husband and I are both pleased with the whole transaction. <br /> As an added bonus we received an 80 dollar gift certificate to a furniture store they own. <br /> I would definitely use them again for service, and check there before buying other appliances! <br />"

"when tech showed up the dryer seemed to be working and heating however it did not when I called, seemed the heating element was cracked creating and off and on working condition. I went ahead to repair the problem by purchasing a new heating element. I was surprised however that the tech expected me to pay in full before he ordered the part and repaired the problem, but I did using my credit card knowing if there was a issue the credit card co. would have my back, The part was order and Alex fixed it as soon as it came in and was great"
