"Steve was professional and easily accessible throughout the project. I felt he provided a fair price for the scope of work. His team was able to effectively remediate the asbestos issue which was confirmed by a third party air testing company. Would definitely recommend Steve and his team for future hazardous waste removal services."

"John is clearly experienced and by the end of the 3.5 hr inspection he was sweating bullets! I come to appreciate the job of a home inspector because it's so physically demanding! <br /> John produced a report that shows all the big (roof leak!) and small issues (carpet too high, prevents door from closing correctly), but what really shocked us and I will be eternally grateful for, is he got our attention on the EIFS exterior right off the beginning! We had no clue this synthetic stucco existed and that it could cause serious moisture issue for the home. He scared us and it's a very good thing. We walked away from a rather pricy home knowing that the $577.00 I spent saved me from potential serious financial mistake! <br /> In the end we ordered what John recommended, a moisture inspection, but the sellers were very uncomfortable with the invasive test and we walked away from the deal. I am heartbroken, but I am grateful and so glad I found a good inspector because h*** I would be p***** 4 months after moving in that my home had moisture problem! <br /> John we are still looking for homes, and potentially looking for a brand new construction but everything I read online said a good home inspection is still just as important on a new home as it is for a old home. So I will be calling =) <br />"

"Children had increased lead levels, so city came out to inspect, identified sources of lead, and required remediation within 30 days. City gave us a list of certified lead remediation contractors and called at least 10 places without getting responses. Ended up getting referred to Mike Fox by someone on the list who was an inspector and didn't do the remediation work.  <br /> Mike was very responsive and showed up as promised to provide a quote. No one likes to receive a quote for $5500 but after researching what the average homeowner ends up paying to fix a lead problem, this turned out to be lower than expected.  <br /> Though I was always working when Mike and his team did the work, my wife was home and had nothing but good things to say about the crew. Very polite, attentive to detail, and very clean - which I suppose is important given the circumstances. Really worked with us to make sure we had access to the house as much as possible. Were originally looking at being displace for a week or two but were only out of the upstairs for a few days. Mike assured me he knew how to work with the city to make things go smoothly as possible. Showed up when the inspector came in case anything was caught during re-inspection but everything passed. <br /> I would definitely recommend Mike and his team for lead remediation. I got the feeling that hiring someone else could have been disastrous."

"FANTASTIC ! Ryan showed up and looked the job over. He identified areas that needed to be sampled / tested. Very professional, safe and hard working team. My wife has asthma so Ryan told me they would be extra careful about dust, etc. They were GREAT throughout the entire remidiation process. They cleaned up the site at the close of each work day. Communication was clear and professional throughout the entire project from Ryan and his team. Would definitely hire him again should the need arise."

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Claymont, DE

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
