"Contractor met at the site to review the conditions and then provided an estimate. We set a date the crew would arrive and the contractor called several days before to see if they could come a day ahead of schedule. We were delighted they could start early. they arrived promptly at 8:00 AM on the start date and began work. The crew was courteous and worked diligently to finish the job in 2 1/2 days. Each day they cleaned up the site before they left and when the work was completed they cleaned the site very nicely. At several point the contractor had questions about how we wanted the details completed and we were happy to be consulted on these issues. We added a layer of closed cell insulation under the metal roof to help dampen the sound and teh contractor provide the additional material at a very fair price.

"Jeremy and Jessica sold us the windows and installed them for us themselves. We could tell by his attention to detail that Jeremy has had a lot of experience in window installation. We observed every step of the installation process, and he explained to us exactly what he was doing and why. They stand by the quality of their work and encouraged us to contact them right away if we had any questions or concerns. We will definitely hire this local Minnesota business again if we choose to install more new windows in our home."

"Overall, the experience and work of the contractor was good.  I am very satisfied with the finish product and didn't feel like I was being taken advantage like other experiences in the past.  The sales person was very helpful in helping me understand the whole process with the insurance company and was very honest.  The only thing I would have liked to see different was a little more communication and help with filling out the paper work for the Certainteed class action lawsuit that I had to file.  Regarding the communication, the day they were suppose to start shingling, I decided to work from home in the morning to make sure everything started as expected but no workers showed because of rain in the area.  I had to contact them and it would have been nice if they contacted me.  Lastly, I also had some trim work that needed replacing which I was expecting to get replaced when the roof was being done but ended up not getting done for another month.  The contractor just showed up and started working and it would have been nice to receive a call saying when they would be out.

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Clearbrook, MN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
