"We recently had new wood floors installed in our home, and the entire process was smooth and stress-free. The team was punctual, professional, and paid close attention to detail from start to finish. They helped us choose the right type of wood, completed the installation on schedule, and the craftsmanship is excellent. The floors look beautiful and completely transformed the space. We?re very happy with the results and would definitely recommend them to others."

"Floors For Living – T. Laborde To Whom It May Concern: This past year was a difficult one. Our house in Kingwood that was never supposed to flood, did. Five feet in five hours. The aftermath was terrible. Shady fly-by-night contractors were coming out of the wood-work. Finding quality at a fair price was extremely difficult. As someone who works in construction and is a certified inspector, and also one who has access to lots of skilled labor and referrals, I can honestly say that I had it much better than most. But, it was really a struggle having to watch, inspect, argue and reargue quality. The one exception in this entire experience was working with Josh Whaley at Floors-For-Living. They were fantastic. FYI, I secured four quotations from other companies. Some were much higher. Floors For Living gave a very fair price. Not the cheapest, but when you consider the value of their warranty and the quality of their installers (Jorge Rodriguez- very professional, honest and polite), the quality of their surface preparation and their superior leveling system, grouts and adhesives, it was a total winner! No, I’m not a family member and I’m not getting anything for writing this. I just feel that FFL earned it with their outstanding performance. Also, as a side note, I used to own rental properties and I’ve worked with and replaced about 10-15 floors over the past 30+ years. This company put the other to shame. We’ve got a few other non-floor items to complete, but when neighbors and friends visit our home, they way WOW! The decision to use the wood-grained plank ceramic was a great one. My wife is a decorator and she wanted wood and was resistant to ceramic. Now, she is a believer also. I hope this helps you make an informed decision. I’m really happy with mine. Incidentally, I met the owner and shared my feelings about the project. Very impressive guy with a great business model built on quality and repeat business. Experience the difference! T. "Brenda and USA Cabinet Store created the design and procured materials for the complete renovation of my 10+ year old master bathroom. The primary goal was to replace the large and unused jacuzzi tub with more usable storage space and to make the entire space more functional and visually appealing, fitting in with the contemporary design of my townhome. I couldn't be happier with the end result, which also included replacement of all vanity cabinets, floor, wall tiling, etc. Brenda was very helpful and responsive. Would definitely recommend for your home renovation project!"

"Mario & Sons are THE MOST spectacular crew I have had the pleasure of working with. They are exceptionally clean, carefully laying out protective covering wherever they work. Their work is meticulous, perfect and beautiful. They take their time to make sure that the work is done right and do not over charge. Their prices are extremely reasonable. I recommend them to everyone I know! We very much enjoyed having Mario & Sons in our home, and will call upon them from this point forward for any repairs, maintenance, or additions."

"I first used Wayco Services a few years ago - they were recommended by a close relative to repair some termite damage. They did a wonderful job and did it quickly. Most recently, my whole house had flood damage due to Hurricane Harvey. They went above and beyond what was expected to restore my house to as good as, or better than it was. They pay careful attention to details, and are courteous and professional, honest and trustworthy. When Wayne tells you something will be done, you can take it to the bank - his word is solid gold. Vicki is great with designs and color selections. I could not be more pleased. They don't just do good work, they are also good people."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Cleveland, TX

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
