"My washing machine was making a lot of noise on the spin cycle, exactly as I described it to Dave on the phone. Dave showed up at my house within the 3 hour window he gave me on the day I let him choose at his convenience, and within 30 seconds of me describing the problem again, he diagnosed the issue and told me it would cost about $600 to repair. I pressed for more details since he never actually observed the machine malfunction, and never removed a screw. I even asked some questions about my dryer which he answered. Unfortunately, it was probably not worth spending so much money on a machine that was 10 years old. I would have given an A rating if he would have diagnosed the problem over the phone, it he would have taken apart the machine an actually spent some time looking at it, or after the first 30 seconds he would have said it just was not worth fixing and just left, but Dave expected his $60 service call fee, which I paid. I really think he knew all along that was how this was gong to turn out, but since he came I thought maybe he would diagnose this further and actually open up the machine to confirm what he thought. Instead, I think was just happy to collect his service fee for ringing more doorbell. I think you deserve a service fee when you spend time inspecting an appliance and fully assessing the damage, but when you know the answer off the top of your head, you should spare the customer the house call and the service fee."
