"Konstantine was timely, creative, and enjoys working with wood. He built a beautiful deck with creative stairs that put the "wow" in the project. I trusted him to work without us being on the property, and the end result was beautiful. The deck is sturdy and well built. I appreciate his professionalism and work ethic. Good work, on-time, within budget."

Customers say: Quality work

"Joe Thom with Oakmont Carpentry provided high quality workmanship and was extremely reliable, trustworthy, and consistently communicated with us throughout the entire project. We had to put a new deck on our home with railing as well as new soffits, fascia and siding on the front of our home. We had a contractor steal our money and not complete the work paid for, and Joe worked with us to finish the work within the budget we had left to do it. He was amazing and I would highly reommend him for any carpentry work!"

"I cannot say enough good about Michael and his crew. Once they started the deck construction, they found significant water damage to the entire back of our house. Michael reassured us that their crew could handle the entire growing project, and that they did! They did an outstanding job with not only the deck but replaced all the damaged wood and reused our siding. They did a fantastic job. We love the deck! We would highly recommend them to anyone. Michael is a gem!"

"Matt is an absolutely exemplary contractor. You will not regret hiring him! He is a wealth of knowledge and experience over 30 years in all facets of construction - custom home builds, remodels, repairs, etc. The quality of his tile work on our kitchen was superb with the tiniest cuts Iâ  ve ever seen, fitting with our Crowne molding, covering old and dead electrical boxes, centering and fixing our kitchen hood duct work was phenomenal, not to mention he left the worksite spotless. I specifically want to note his timeliness, communication, and follow through. Not once did he fail to communicate via call or email. He was on time every day that he said he would be present. This alone in construction speaks volumes of his character and business practice. I will be contacting him for any and all of my home repair/remodel needs and recommending him to all my friends and family. Once more, you wonâ  t regret his skill, communication, and overall quality. Thanks again Matt! We will be in touch."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Coeur D Alene, ID

A pro can set an attic ladder in two to four hours, including framing adjustments and finish work. Complex installs—like cutting a brand-new opening or trimming joists—land toward the high end of that window. Tackle the job yourself and plan on a full day, plus an extra pair of hands, since one mis-measurement can slow everything down.

Local building codes drive this decision. If your ceiling has a fire-rating requirement, the ladder must match it to maintain that protective barrier. A rated unit slows flame spread between the attic and living space, buying valuable evacuation time and limiting damage.

Because codes vary by city and even by neighborhood, check with the permitting office or ask your contractor before you order the ladder.

Aluminum ladders are light, rust-proof, and easy to maneuver, making them a practical choice for most households. Wood models handle higher weight loads and can match traditional trim if aesthetics top your list, but they’re heavier and need occasional upkeep.

Compare the ladder’s duty rating, your ceiling height, and how often you’ll use it. The best option is the one that balances safety, convenience, and the look you want without stretching the budget.
