"We’re currently remodeling two bathrooms under the same contract. The first bathroom is complete, and the second one just started this week. While their bid wasn’t the lowest we received, it felt fair and, in hindsight, definitely worth it. The project manager was an excellent communicator—knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and never pressured us to accept the offer. We’re extremely pleased with the quality of work on the first bathroom and are confident the second will turn out just as well. A tip for future clients: make sure you have all the necessary materials on hand. We did, and the team completed the bathroom ahead of schedule. The space is narrow, so the photo angles don’t do it justice, but I hope they still give a sense of the high-quality work delivered."

Small jobs welcome

"Miguel appraised and explained the repair work needed, time required and cost and presented his estimate. It was acceptable. He and his assistant then commenced work the next day and Miguel completed the job the following day efficiently and satisfactorily. I would not hesitate to recommend Hemma (and Miguel) to anyone requiring siding and gutter work."

"<p>The service and responsiveness from McCulloch Remodeling was unlike anything my family has experienced before.  I started what I expected would be a simple ceiling fan installation in my daughter's bedroom in a College Station condo she shares with two friends.  I only brought the tools that a simple installation would require.  It turned out that the light fixture box was plastic and not braced well enough to support a fan.  Not only that, but after taking the light fixture box out, there was no apparent way to even put the light back up because of the incredibly dumb way the builder had attached it.  </p> <p><br /></p> <p>So, late on a Friday I turned to Angie's List and saw that McCulloch Remodeling was available for emergency calls.  When I called, Clay listened to my predicament and then patiently described what I could purchase at Home Depot to safely install the fan myself to save the cost of a service call.  However, I didn't feel comfortable because of the limited tools I had with me in College Station and because of an existing metal brace that I couldn't figure out how to avoid or use.  Clay sent me off to Home Depot to get the part before they closed, and headed to meet me at my daughter's place.  He spent nearly two hours of his time coming up with a good, safe way to install the fan and started the installation.  He would have completed the installation but I had stripped the threads of a screw that was needed and by this time Home Depot was closed.   He walked me through everything remaining that was needed until I was completely comfortable completing the job the next day myself, once I was able to get the few remaining parts needed.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>It was clear from my discussions with Clay during this work that he is extremely knowledgeable (I'm an engineer so I asked a lot of questions!)  and is very "hands on" in his business.  HIs background and his clear desire to help out and do a good job makes it easy for me to recommend him highly for any home repair or remodeling job. </p> <p><br /></p> <p>When Clay went  to leave, I asked for the bill, ....but he absolutely refused to accept any payment!  He said to chalk this one up as a "Good Ag" just helping out another.  This was without him even knowing that the reason I had such a high urgency to get the fan installed was that my daughter was in a bad automobile accident recently.   She was hit head on by a drunk driver going 70 mph, but she is bravely going to go to school this semester with the help of an electric mobility scooter.  The fan is needed because the combination of medications she is on makes her very warm at times.</p> <br />"

"Called around a little for someone to come in and do some updates and a few odds and ends that I needed to get done for some time. We called and found out that this very nice gentleman lived nearby and he was very pleasant to speak with on the phone. He came out the next day and gave me a very fair price for a good load of work. The owner did all the work himself. He brought in his cleaning crew to clean up and they did the whole house. It was amazing. Well worth every penny. They will be doing my full kitchen and bathroom remodel in the near future. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in College Station, TX

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
