"<p>I contacted the contractor by phone.  I explained that I wanted to take advantaged of the Angie's List Big deal that provided a driveway seal coating of up to 2,500 square feet for $338.00.  I also explained that there was additional work that the driveway needed that was above and beyond the "Big Deal'.  S & M sent a representative out and we discussed the particulars of the job.  The 'rep' wrote up an estimate that included the "Big Deal' work as well as the additional I wanted done.  I actually showed the 'rep' the 'Big Deal' that was on the Angie's List website before he wrote-up a contract.  I read the contract before signing and I agreed to the terms.  The contract outlined: the work to be performed; the amount to be paid for the total job ($520.00); an approximate start date; and described how the work would be done.  I gave the contractor 'rep' a check in the amount of $520.00.  As instructed, I made the check payable to the owner of S & W Paving and not to the company.  I wanted the work to be complete while I was on vacation.  That way I was sure no one would have to drive on the driveway while it was still 'wet'.  S & M initially scheduled the job for Saturday, May 3rd, but didn't  do the work until Monday, May 5.  We got back home on May 14th.  </p> <p>My first impression of the completed driveway was one of disappointment.  I had envisioned something else entirely different with a 'double' seal coating.  I called the contractor and someone explained to me what a 'seal coating' actually is.  I feel I received a much smaller measure of value for what was done. Had I known before hand what the result would have been, I would not have had the work done.  I would have chalked this up as one of those 'live and learn' experiences, but for what has happened since.</p> When I tried to purchase this deal on the Angie's List website I was not certain that I had actually been able to do so.  I didn't receive a confirmation that I had done so.  In fact, I wasn't aware of this until I received correspondence from our credit card provider sometime in May.  Fraudulent activity had occurred on our account, and the provider was issuing us new cards with a new account number. The correspondence also included a list of purchases made on the old account.  A charge for Angie's List in the amount of $338.00 was one of the items listed.  In my several conversations with Angie's List employees I have learned that S & M Paving was also paid by Angie's List for the "Big Deal".  So, the contractor was in fact paid twice for the "Big Deal'.  I contacted S & M paving in late May regarding this, and I was told by Peggy that they would be sending me a refund of $338.00. "Let me tell you about Crockett and Sons Concrete Inc.. I contacted 4 concrete contractors for replacement of two existing sidewalks in front of my house and repair of some paving stones on a patio in the rear of my home. One contractor never called me back, one contractor stated he would call me back, but never did, one called me back-then set up an appointment  for an estimate-but never showed up! This , unfortunately ,is the common rude behavior many concrete contractors exhibit-especially during the summer when they are very busy. Crockett and Sons, despite being very busy, returned my call right away-then promptly set up an appointment for an on site estimate. They showed up right on time, listen to my concerns, took the appropriate measurements and left. I received an estimate, via e-mail a few days later. After agreeing to a price and signing a contract, the workers showed up a couple of weeks later and completed all work in one day . The work performed was of excellent quality, the job site was left in a clean state, and they completely repaired any landscaping damage caused by the work. Very satisfied! <br /> Mark <br />"

"<p>Design of the project to be completed with a Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 installation was  coordinated with Land Art. The installation of the dogwood, drift roses, vibernum, red tip photinia, spotted laurel and butterfly bushes as well as the sod and bed prep was the scope of the fall project . Spring 2014 consisted of installation of several varieties of flowering perennials.</p> <p>We were disappointed with the size of the shrubs installed in the fall however, the dogwood was perfect. 2 of the drift roses upon arrival were damaged and we asked they be replaced , Land Art did not replace them and in the Spring we had to insist a replacement as the damaged roses did not survive the winter well. A spotted laurel and 2 of the red tips did not rebound in the spring and we waited until July for the laurel replacement and Land Art only agreed to one of the red tip replacements.</p> <p>Spring project actually began in May and carried through September should have been an easy complete in May.</p> <p>8 ivy planned only 5 installed in May remaining in September</p> <p>9 blackout hostas could not be installed as planned moved to different beds</p> <p>5 Fraces Williams hostas returned - could not be installed as planned $100 credit</p> <p>7 sweet tea hostas installed as planned- 1 died </p> <p>3 Echinacea berry installed as planned  - 1 died </p> <p>11 black eyed susans- installed as planned</p> <p>5 rosemary installed as planned - 1 is not thriving</p> <p>3 lavender, 9 Kalimeris blue star, 3 milkshake Echinacea, 16 blue hill salvia, 2 northern bayberry, 11 day lilies and 1 crepe myrtle installed as planned </p> <p>8 pachysandra, 7 installed in May , 1 installed in September</p> <p>4 Fingerleaf, 3 installed in May  1 died, I installed in September</p> <p>2 butterfly bushes - 1 is not thriving</p> <p>3 Marmalade Echinacea installed- August we requested be replaced as none of them were thriving. Land Art instead removed 3 day lilies from the lily bed and installed replacement Echinacea in the lily bed. Requested Echinacea planted in error be replaced with day lilies of same size and blooms as those removed and received plantings of much less size and quality.</p> <p>At this point we requested Land Art no longer perform any services in our absence and would need to schedule appointments for entry to the property to ensure correct placement of plants as occurred with original installation in May. When the company representative arrived at the appointed day and time he mentioned he was not expecting to be called out and had been drinking. This was a scheduled appointment .</p> <p>While the majority of the 2 phase project went off without a hitch we are very disappointed phase 2 lasted from May through September when we were told all would be complete in one day. So many calls through out the summer to request completion with no result was very frustrating. Only when Land Art called for payment of phase 2 in August were remaining and replacement plants installed between August and September.  Final payment on phase 2 will be just as sporadic.</p> <p><br /></p> <br />"
