"I chose Emilio with 614 drywall to mud, tape and texture the drywall in my basement. For multiple reasons, his quote was reasonable, his previous work was impressive and he was very timely in his quote and responses to questions. I am so happy that we chose 614 drywall to complete this project. The work was done with pride and the finished product was incredible. Emilio completed the 1200 sqft basement in the quoted time, and worked very hard to do so. I would recommend 614 Drywall to anyone who has ANY drywall needs."

"Mary and Bob are a great team. She takes care of the communications and he is a great carpenter from what I can tell. He did a small job for me, working for a community resource efficiency organization, so I can only review from this but he did great, efficient work. He installed some new, efficient basement windows and caulked/ trimmed them out and they look great. He also installed a door around my furnace and water heater to keep the cold air intakes from leaking cold air into my finished basement. Also, did a great job, and he had some un-plumb walls and tricky dimensions to deal with. He made a dumpy laundry room look like, well, an actual room!
I should stress that Bob and Mary contract to CLEER, which as amazing non-profit organization in Carbondale, Colorado that gathers funding for local homeowners to make energy-efficiency upgrades.  I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!

A friend had Scott with Seller Construction finish their basement and we were very impressed with the design and workmanship.  We asked Scott to give us a bid on finishing our basement and obtained bids from other companies as well.  Seller Construction was very competitive in pricing and based on seeing his work, we decided to go with him.  He did an outstanding job!  The basement is approx. 970 sq. ft.  We had an entertainment room, play room, bedroom with a closet, 3/4 bathroom, an arts/craft room and a storage room built.  Scott was professional from start to finish.  He arrived on time everyday, got the permits, etc. needed.  He worked with us on the design and made great suggestions.  He did everything we wanted, including finding door knobs in Ft. Collins to match what we had throughout the rest of the house.  He used a professional plumber and electrician and was on site the entire time.

Other companies told us that we would have to tear up the existing bathroom pipes, etc., but Scott told us that it wasn't necessary.  He even managed to add a linen closet in the bathroom.  The walls are flawless as far as seeing seams in the drywall, and painted the ceiling and all the rooms in the colors that we wanted.  We've recommended him to friends and they've been happy with his work as well.  We will definitely hire him again for future projects."

"Our experience with the siding crew was excellent--this crew was responsible for replacing all the siding and trim as well as painting the foundation to match the siding, installing outside lights provided by us and doing all the detail work (replacing house numbers, painting the front door, etc.) on the exterior of the house.  Our project manager, Javier, was proactive and responsive, and the work was done in a very timely manner and was of great quality.
Our experience with the remodeling division, which handled the rebuilding of our front porch and building a 45 sq. foot landing off our back sliding door, was not as positive.  There were numerous delays on both projects and our project manager, Wes, was not as responsive or proactive.  We wanted to have the same company handle all the exterior work, but Scottish's performance was uneven between the two divisions.  We paid a premium to have all the work done by one company and it was frustrating that the front porch/back landing projects did not give us the value of a seamless work flow that we were hoping our higher cost would buy us.
When I got frustrated with the delays, I spoke to the staff at the main office and they were as responsive as possible and finally the job was done.  I would recommend the siding division without hesitation.  When it comes to the remodeling division, I have some reservations.

After obtaining a bid from a prominent local tile business that I thought was too expensive, I asked Levi's Custom Tile for a bid that came in at one third the price for the labor compared to the other vendor. Levi and is workers installed the tile on time, as specified, and did an excellent job. Very professional. We plan on using him again for future jobs.

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Crestone, CO

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
