"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Greg provided an outstanding inspection that was thorough with a high level of detail. We had a complete picture of the condition of the home we were purchasing as well as an understanding of future repairs and modifications that would be needed down the road. Greg was able to identify the various dates of upgrades and modifications to get a sense of the history of the house. He also provided a great explanation of the severity of various observations. We were highly impressed with the overall experience and would highly recommend him to others."

"The project had it's hiccups, mostly because of things encountered while the crew were trying to do their job.  Our house used to be a summer cottage, so the original builders/owners didn't exactly take the proper steps on doing nearly everything. <br /> The crew had to regroup a few times to figure out the best solution possible for what they had encountered.  I feel they were able to overcome the hiccups. <br /> I really don't have any complaints on their work."

"They regretted the estimate and started packing on things. They gave us an offer. Then the owner came and said that it was under bid. He started adding all sorts of conditions. Originally, they gave us the estimate in May. The quote was $6500 and then it's hard to say. I thought that they were very organized except that after the estimator came out, then the owner came out and said that the estimator's estimate was wrong. We had actually signed a contract both on their company and our side when he said that. We had already signed off and expected them the next day and then the owner came out. Technically, he kept the amount the same, but then he added all these conditions in the contract. If this happens, it will cost that much, and there were all things that were going to happen. Originally, they said that it was a two-day job. They said that it was a one day job and that if it goes late, we have to pay them extra. It was like that; it was very irritating. It sounds like they know what they are doing. It's not at all positive when all of a sudden, I had an accepted bid and I had a board of directors that had to agree with it. They agreed with it and they went back. I've heard good things about the quality of their work. It was a big demerit for changing the contract after it was signed. The price was good until it changed. Since it was not reliable, the price was a problem. My expectation was that the quality would be fine. With regard to responsiveness, there was no problem. They got back to us right away. Their punctuality was good. With regard to professionalism, there was a problem. Some of the people were fine. I would be hesitant to use them again in the future. I would be interested in getting a bid and see what happens."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Crown Point, IN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
