"Two friends separately recommended Jim Tanis and his company, Expert Carpet Care. My friends were so right! Jim and his company are the best. They are not the cheapest contractor but their work was worth every cent."

"The salesman met us in our home on a Sunday within a week of our initial call. He was very professional and showed us a range of options at different price points. However, Costco does not sell "cheaper" carpet, so even the least expensive options were rather "high-end." We got a good deal on a very nice Shaw berber carpet with Stainmaster protection and a very soft upgraded pad, which makes it very comfortable to walk on barefoot. We were told it would be installed in less than 1 week, but it was actually about 2 weeks before installation. A couple calls to Costco's central number were required to follow-up on the situation before we received a return call from the installer. On the day of installation, they arrived earlier than the scheduled time and finished ahead of schedule. They do move furniture, but with some major caveats. We had to hire a piano mover to move our grand piano out of the way -- the installers wouldn't touch that. They also will not move any electronics, and they ask that drawers be removed from furniture (or emptied out if the drawers can't be removed). This wound up being very time-consuming for us. But overall we are very satisfied with the results -- a huge upgrade!"

"Knowledgeable and patient advice from Ron. Installers seemed professional, but apparently they improperly installed the pads and/or carpet on our stairs. It started wearing much more quickly than it should have.. Ron came out and said the installers had not done the job correctly and that he would look into it. We were past the warranty period, and we never heard back. We are definitely dissatisfied with the lack of follow-up."

"<p>We had Carpet Spectrum install new flooring throughout our home and we are extremely happy with the results. My wife had a very particular look in mind for our new flooring and Carpet Spectrum was very helpful by showing her many different materials, patterns and colors. We were particularly impressed with Jason’s knowledge of and experience with flooring as evidenced by his discussion at our home of how Carpet Spectrum would approach the flooring project, especially in some of the more challenging parts of the project. Carpet Spectrum’s bid was timely and competitive so we contracted with them for the work.</p> <p>Installation went beautifully and Carpet Spectrum’s flooring mechanics demonstrated their skill. Juan and Anthony did an amazing job with the subfloor preparation and installation of the laminated vinyl plank flooring. They were thorough and careful, showed us how they were going to approach all the flooring transitions and also did a beautiful job with the new baseboards. Sergio is a true craftsman in carpet installation. We selected a strongly patterned carpet for our two sets of stairs and he matched the pattern on each step beautifully. Even the walk-off mats Sergio had made from left-over carpet matched the adjoining pattern and were cut to exactly fit into the doorframe.</p> <p>Whenever we had questions or needed to discuss an issue, Jan in the Lomita office was helpful and very quick in responding to our needs.</p> <p>We would absolutely recommend Carpet Spectrum for any flooring project.</p>"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Culver City, CA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
