"I selected having my new HVAC (heatpump) system installed by Ragsdale based on the qualified sales consultation, the use of Carrier products made in the USA, and Ragsdale being a local certified family run business. My new unit was installed this morning by two technicians who worked efficiently and who kept me in the loop about the new equipment, thermostat, warranty, and FAQs. They were polite, neat & tidy. Well recommended."

"As I am new to my home, I had the company come out to check my sump pump and replace some faucets. I learned during visit that the current pump was to small for my home which is less then 2 years old. I immediately had him install the property pump size for the best efficiency. So appreciative of the great work. Thanks!"

"I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Anthony Jr was very professional and courteous, he was understanding of my kids running around, and he answered all the questions I had. I let him fix the sink while I was busy dealing with my children. He was also right on time for the appointment, and was very prompt fixing the issue. After he was done, he explained again everything he did, collected my Service Fee, and explained that there were no additional costs because it was covered by my home warranty company. In the future, I will definitely use A-total Plumbing! Thank you for your great service!

Customers say: Super punctual

"Saturday evening I discovered the laundry room washing machine drain line was overflowing during rinse cycles.  To witness this I had to go into the adjacent garage and cut a hole in the drywall and observe it.  Concurrent with this we had people in preparing to rebuild a shower in the master bath.  After I ascertained the problem I went in the Mr. Plumber website an entered a service request.  Within two hours I had a call from the "weekend duty" plumber offering immediate help but I said next day was fine.Sunday morning.  After warning of possible consequences of  "snaking the drain" I approved the service.  The clog was deep in the drain, about 14 feet.  Clearing it  and testing took nearly an hour.  While he was with us I asked the tech, Matt Byrne, to snake a slow drain in the shower that was being rebuilt.  He did this and it works much better. When I mentioned my patching the drywall in the garage, Matt suggested installing pre-made access panels to allow viewing the problem area in the future.  I did install the access panels. This is the 2nd time I have used these people, the are prompt, neat, and very professional.  With a forty year old house you need this kind of back-up."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Cumberland, GA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
