"This contractor is HORRIBLE. I hired them based on Angie's list recommendation and the really good reviews. BIG MISTAKE! I hired Black Rock Renovations (Javier LaRue) to build a shadow box cedar fence and it was a nightmare. One major thing Mr. LaRue did was place the posts outside the fence line, changing the entire look of the fence. He did this without consulting with me. He also cut the pickets at the bottom of the fence different lengths, he left holes where pickets should have been and did not cut the wood correctly leaving it looking very sloppy. There were several pickets that were used to build the fence that were split and damaged. When I asked him to fix the fence posts to match the shadow box design I paid for, he said that I would have to pay for it. I was already paying him over $7000 for the fence so I asked for a discount since he wasn't willing to fix his mistake on his dime. He told me he would give me 5% off the labor cost which would have been $150 but only if I leave him a 5-star review. He also left my neighborâ s side of the fence undone for over a week not saying anything to me about needing to finish it. As far as he told me the fence was complete. I had to email him several times, call, and text him and meet with him in person to show him the mistakes that needed to be fixed before I paid him for the job. He felt he did the fence correctly and often argued with me even after I showed him the major mistakes he made. He also threatened to file a mechanics lien on my property if I hired another contractor to fix his mistakes without paying him the rest of the money. Mr. LaRue's company is only two years old, and it shows. He makes promises that he doesn't keep and then denies later that he made. He speaks professionally and carries himself well, which is another reason I felt that using him was a good choice. Donâ t be fooled. Donâ t make the mistake I made. He will send someone to do a sloppy job and he will not care what you think about it. I am stuck with a fence that I paid over $7,000 for that does not look the way it is supposed to look nor is it built with the quality and standards that you would expect a fence costing over $7,000 to be."

FAQs for chain link fence repair or alter projects in Cumberland, MD

Installing a concrete reinforcement slab significantly boosts the stability and longevity of your chain link fence. This reinforcement creates a strong foundation that protects the fence from erosion, burrowing animals, and high winds. The installation cost is $4 to $10 per square foot, and this robust base minimizes the need for future repairs while extending the overall lifespan of your fence.

Repairing minor damage such as small holes is far more cost‑effective than replacing significant portions of your chain link fence. Minor repairs cost between $100 and $200, while replacing full sections demands an investment of $1,000 to $2,000. For a fence that is 20 years old or older, having an expert assess it now can prevent repeated repair expenses and secure long‑term durability, thereby safeguarding overall fence performance.

If you'd rather remove your chain link fence than repair or replace it, professionals charge between $3 and $5 per linear foot for the job. There may be additional costs involved if there is extra labor needed, like relocating plants or separating the chain-link fence from other existing structures. This also does not include waste disposal fees.

Chain link fences have an average lifespan of 20 years with regular cleaning and maintenance. They stand out as one of the most affordable and durable fencing options available to homeowners and businesses alike. Chain link fences often last five to 10 years longer than comparable wooden fence installations. Chain-link fences made with a vinyl coating often exceed these estimates, providing even greater longevity and weather resistance.
