"Jess helped us out with the huge job of replacing the entire sewer main pipe from under our house to the sidewalk given that our old cast iron pipes were corroded and kept getting blocked by roots. This was a 3 day job involving a multiple person team. We went with Jess given that his estimate seemed fair and beat out other competitors. The work ended up being more labor intensive than anticipated, as digging to the city sewer line, which should have taken hours, ended up taking a day and a half due to unseen gnarled roots and cement in the soil. Despite this, Jess and his team worked diligently, showed up when they said they would, and finished on time. They were courteous, professional, and very hard working. "Short version:
They got the job done, but it took two visits and cost about 2-3 times more than it should have because they initially arrived with the wrong equipment and then recommended an unnecessary, expensive video scan.  The extra cost was due to their error and they should have covered at least some of it (if not all) but they refused.

Details:

Our sewer line backed up between our house and the street, and so I called In and Out to clear it.  They arrived with nothing but a hand snake because supposedly other equipment was in the shop.  The plumber was able to (temporarily) clear the obstruction with the hand snake.  Charge: $250, which also included cleaning the trap in one of our interior sinks.  So far so good (although if I'd known they'd come with just a hand snake, I would have done it myself...)
Two weeks later, the line backs up again, because the hand snake only punched a small hole in the obstruction rather clear it completely.  I called In and Out to come back with the correct equipment.  

This time they arrived with the proper equipment, including the full sized snake and water jet to clear the roots.  Given the previous failure to remove the blockage, they recommended sending the video camera down the pipes to diagnose the problem.  Problem = roots from the trees near the sewer line (surprise!).  They used the snake + water jet to remove the roots and clear the obstruction.  Now everything works.  Bill = another $775.  

 Why do they get a C grade?
Issue 1: they refused to refund any of the money from their first, failed intervention.  If they'd just arrived with the right equipment, we would have removed the roots on day one, sparing us another sewer back up and another expensive visit.  They brought the wrong equipment and didn't solve the problem -- there should be at least a partial refund.  Even an apology would have been nice.  But I didn't get either.   instead, we come to Issue 2

 Issue 2:  when they came back, they recommended an unnecessary (and very expensive) video scan of our system which just turned up the obvious problem of roots from the nearby tree.
Total cost was over $1000, for a job where most plumbers would have just gone in with the big snake + jet on day one and knocked out the roots for $250-400.   In and Out ultimately fixed the problem, but we had to endure 2 days of sewer back up and paid 2-3x what we should have.

On the plus side, they were always very prompt, professional, and friendly in person (aside from issues noted above)"

"Nick was very careful and methodical, trying everything possible to determine the cause of the leak-- like detaching the light fixture from the ceiling in order to look into the ceiling cavity with a flashlight and running water through the tub in several ways in order to puzzel out the source of the problem.  After careful consideration and no solution possible through any other method, I agreed that Nick should open the downstairs ceiling under the tub to check the main piping.  He removed about a 1 and a half foot square section with a small electric saw-- just enough for him to really get a look up inside with a good light.  While the wood was wet over a considerable area, Nick was able to determine that all the piping was in fact undisturbed and he assessed that the leaking was coming from a major breach in the old caulking all around the tiled tub. The way that my tub is tiled made it very hard to be sure of this when inspecting it from the outside, as the breaches were no more than hairline fissures that did not seem to go all the way through the tile grout.  Finally, Nick recommended I find a diamond certified handyman/contractor to replace the old grout and caulking and reseal the tub and surrounding tile.  He also gave me some suggestions on how to fix a water pressure/flow problem in my downstairs bath by simply replacing the old (translation: crappy and cheap!) shower head and tub spout on my own. 
Really-- I can't say enough about how thorough, helpful, clean, professional and honest this technician was.  He could not have done a better job representing his company!  I am acutely aware that, had this young man told me that all my pipes were broken and in need of replacement, I would have had no choice but to believe him and have the work done.  But the fact that he calmly and intelligently talked me through all the various problems we might encounter upon opening the ceiling as well as the best and worst-case scenarios regarding the possible solutions, I felt, as far as anyone can, that he was trustworthy and eager to do the best job that he could do. And while the problem was not actually solved by the service this company provided, I feel that the "diagnosis" they have provided (including the 100% assurance that the pipes themselves are intact and the instructions on how to test for leaks before I have the ceiling closed back up again), are invaluable to the final outcome of what could have turned into a longterm and devastating problem.
I am grateful for my experience with this business and this particular technician and will surely call them again if I have any other plumbing issues.
Now I am just hoping that my next experience with the contractor I must choose to finish this repair will go equally as well!
