"This pro provided useful information via a virtual (online) video consultation. Since this service does not send technicians to the home, they did not do the actual work. I am considering whether to order parts and try to complete the repair myself or under their virtual direction."

"Very well. The repairman checked the washer thoroughly, and determined that we didnt need to replace the motor at this time. We really appreciated his honesty and professionalism. Will definitely call them the next time we need any household appliance repairs."

"I wish I had used these people earlier. I ordered a part for my dryer and was able through their instructional video to fix it myself. Let me tell you I am "mechanically challenged" in just about every way. LOL I may have cut myself through my own stupidity but I did it. it was easy and I did not have to pay a repair man for a simple fix. Thank you so much!"

"Kevin was the person who came to our house.  He was a nice enough guy.  I have nothing against him but I will never use this company again.  Unfortunately there is some price gouging going on in this business.  I picked this company because of all the positive reviews on Angie's List but unfortunately I did not have one of those positive experiences.  Kevin cleaned out the boot in my washer which wasn't very dirty.  He quickly determined that we needed a new rubber boot and claimed that ours probably wore around the seal causing it to leak.  I did my research on the internet and knew this was a common problem.  He quoted me a price of $360 claiming that the part was $200 and it was labor intensive.  I told him that I probably would just buy a new washing machine for this price.  He quickly said it would be $94.90 for the service call.  After he left, I called Howie Voight and they told me they could get the part shipped to me by Monday for $83.  I looked on Sears' website and could get the part for $67.  I bought it off Amazon for $55.  Regardless I don't know why they need to have over 100% markup on their parts.  What a profit margin!  I watched a youtube video that was 7 minutes long on how to fix this part.  I took apart my machine in roughly 30 minutes.  It took me a long time to get it back together because I did not have a spring expansion tool which you need to put the spring loaded ring back around the boot.  If I had this tool, this project would have cost me $55 and taken about an hour.  So his statement that the part was $200 and it was labor intensive was completely inaccurate.  So I paid them $94.90 for 30 minutes in which he cleaned out my boot and looked under my machine.  He was there for less than 30 minutes and his diagnosis was not completely accurate as I found two small holes in the boot by the drain where it was leaking so it actually wasn't worn around the seal. <br />"

"Service went well. Called Monday morning, they arrived in the afternoon and told me what was wrong with my washer. Order the parts for me right away & then called on Tuesday morning letting me know that the parts had arrived. Came over right away to install & now my washer is working again. Very professional & cleaned up after they were done working. Will definitely call again if I ever need any appliance fixed."

"Even though John Behnke, the owner and serviceman of Independent Applicance SVC Inc., received high ratings and words of praise through Angie's List from previous customers, I was not at all pleased with his overall service. My 2003 Maytag washer did not drain the water from the wash cycle. Because of positive comments from Angie's list, I called his office cell number three times. John never returned my call. So I callled his home phone number. I was given very poor excuses as to why he did not return my calls. such as he was taking a nap. He gave me a time and date that he would be at my home to do a diagnostic check of the washer, and he did arrive at the appointed time. I was billed a $30.00 service charge and $25.00 for each 30 minutes of labor. He checked to make sure that the water in the wash cycle was not draining and then made a call to order a new timer. That took no more than 15 minutes, but I was charged for a full half hour. Before he left, he asked me to pay him for the cost of the new timer which amounted to $157.82. ( It was my assumption that the parts would be paid for when the job was completed.) I was told it would take one day for the timer to arrive and that he would call me when it came in. After 4 days, I had not heard from him, so I called his office cell number. Once again he did not return my call, so I phoned his home phone. He informed me that he had not checked his messages. John did arrive at my home at the appointed time to install the new timer. I must admit that he was a competent worker and was familar with various parts of my washer. On the other hand, I was very disappointed with his lack of professionalism and the over charging of his services. Because of his disappointing work ethic, I would not recommend him to anyone in search of a person to repair a large appliance unless you are patient and willing to make several follow-up phone calls in order to have your repair needs attended to in a manner that will be met to your satisfaction. <br />"

FAQs for fridge, freezer or ice maker repair or service projects in De Pere, WI

Most ice makers are similar in design, and some parts are interchangeable. However, if your ice maker has advanced filters or special features, it's best to use the same make and model to ensure everything works properly. Ask your appliance repair pro to check your appliance specifications to be sure.

With regular use and proper maintenance, an ice maker typically lasts about four to five years. If you keep up with tasks like changing the filters every six months, you might get up to 10 years out of your ice maker. Address any problems with your ice maker right away by calling an appliance professional to ensure you solve any issues before they escalate, helping to keep your ice maker running smoothly for longer.

Your refrigerator's age plays a big role in deciding whether to repair or replace the ice maker. If your fridge is nearing the end of its average 14-year lifespan, it might not be worth investing in expensive repairs since other parts could fail soon. Getting a diagnosis from a refrigerator repair pro can help you decide what's best.
