"I never write reviews on anything but I feel I needed to share my experience with Universal Carpet. My wife and I shopped all the big box stores for new vinyl plank flooring and found just about the same products everywhere. Prices were all about the same and the products were not substantial at most. I shared my experience with a close friend and he referred me to Universal Carpet. I called and set up an appointment with Mike Larsen. He came by our house and looked over our situation and brought some sample pieces by. We talked for a while and he invited my wife and I to look at samples at his office. My wife is a picky shopper and with Mike's input and suggestions we decided on a COREtec product to install. The cost was a bit higher than big box, but not much more at all. Mike explained that he could sell us a big box item but he didn't think we would be happy. Mike was not pushy at all throughout the sale process and kept us updated on delivery date and time. We received the product and had it installed this week and we are overly pleased with the outcome!! My wife and I give two thumbs up to Universal Carpet and our rep. Mike Larsen."

"I highly recommend Nu-Way Systems carpet cleaning. Not only did Rick ANSWER the phone, (which should be a normal business procedure, but seems to be an above average practice), he scheduled us one business day later because he knew I had an issue with dog hair and an allergic visitor. They arrived on time, took great care with our home and did an outstanding job cleaning the carpet. The sectional they cleaned turned back to its original color, having greyed due to dust an unprofessional cleaning a year ago. They managed to remove a spill of laundry detergent in the laundry room, too (yes, we are idiots with carpet in the laundry room). We are very happy and will use Nu-Way Systems again. (Soon probably; we have a dog)."

"When I called to set up the appointment I was walked through the process and was given an accurate and cost-saving estimate. This was Monday and I said I was having company on Friday They were able to come the next morning! The arrival time was set for 9am-noon, and I received a call around 9:10 that the two-man team was on their way from a neighboring town. The guys were very nice and professional. We walked thru the house and they took note of everything and asked questions about moving certain items. I'd removed all knick knacks from surfaces and put away floor items (baskets, floor lamps, small tables, humidifier, etc) before they arrived and they we happy about that. One man prepared the area to be cleaned while the second man followed behind with the extractor. They asked permission before hooking up to the outdoor faucet, and wore shoe protection while they worked. They suggested I wear a rubber soled shoe to walk on the damp carpet and warned me to be careful stepping off the carpet onto tile. Carpets look and smell fantastic! Great job!"

"From the moment we entered the store we were recognized and the sales man gave us lots of options and samples to take home. I really liked that the price quoted included items that were add-on expenses at other stores. I felt like I had a much better understanding of what we were getting for the money we had to spend. We did not end up having the work completed due to an unexpected household emergency that necessitated redirecting the funds we had for the carpet. i was extremely disappointed. When we are ready to move forward, we will not hesitate in returning to Lonnie's Carpet Max. <br />"

"They sold and installed three rooms of carpeting. Im mostly satisfied. I feel there was more leftover carpet than there should have been. Also, salesperson did not let installers know they needed to move furniture-which delayed the start and caused it to become a 2day vs one day job. Installers were extremely friendlyand courteous and they did a really nice thorough job."

"I highly recommend Rich. During our initial meeting, we discussed our flooring project and my expectations. Within two days, Rich provided a quote for the job and we set up an installation date that was convenient for me and my family. The new floor was installed professionally and efficiently. Rich also took the time to make sure that the closet doors were hung correctly and installed a doorway threshold that looked better than the threshold which I provided for the job. I could not have been more pleased with his work. Two days after the floor was installed, Rich called to make sure we were satisfied with the work he had done. It is Rich?s attention to the little details that make him an excellent service worker. He also is a kind and considerate person and a pleasure to work with. I would not hesitate to contact him for future projects in my home. He is also an excellent resource person for recommendations on other service worker projects in the home."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Dekalb, IL

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
