"This company knows what it’s doing. I called Mighty Clean and Linda provided estimate, arranged date. Kevin arrived on time, measured, provided actual cost (close to estimate), completed work in 2 hours (again as estimated), and left me with a “like-new” carpeted rec room and a sparkling modular sofa. I definitely recommend this company and will use them again."

"Clawes Carpet replaced the flooring on both my entry way, main level, basement and the stairs which connect these levels in my townhouse. I cannot say enough positive thoughts about this company, its administrative staff, installers and the whole process from start to finish has been smooth and well organized (even when I requested to change the install date :)). They are accommodating and the final result is outstanding! I love the final results, and receive lots of compliments. This has been the best and most pleasant experience! I would and have recommended this company over and over."

"Could not have been more pleased, a pleasure to work with and Walter went over the top to ensure everything was perfect! I am going to purchase carpet from him and have him do the installation as well. I wholeheartedly recommend Walter for any flooring work! Jeff Hendrix"

"Excellent carpet and installation. They had provided service years ago and it was excellent then as well. I will be replacing existing flooring in other areas of my home and will definitely reach out to Matt and hope that Alex and Ruben will be the installers."

"Their rep was extremely helpful in selecting a color and figuring out the best width of carpet to minimize seams that might trip one of our little kids. The only problem was that their rep had said the installers would glue the wooden strips to our concrete basement floor. The installers showed up and started hammering them into our concrete basement floor, which is not ideal. Apparently gluing the wooden strips requires doing the glue requires coming one day, and then coming another day to actually put down the carpet. Hopefully the nails in the concrete floor won't cause moisture problems... Otherwise they were great; the result looks great."

"While setting up to clean the tile and grout in an upstairs bathroom, the hose the technician was using burst. He immediately ran to the truck to shut if off but not before it spewed black sludge on the wall and hallway carpet. The technician work diligently to clean everything up, then offered to clean the carpet in both the hallway and stairs leading up to it. He then called the owner and he offered to paint the hallway since he wasn't able to get it completely clean. That's what he did. The painter arrived the next day and painted the entire hallway the color of my choosing and the company's expense. He then came back and put on a second coat later in the week. He was so good, in fact, we used him to paint our kitchen.  <br /> This was an ugly accident but an accident nonetheless. The company, though, handled it just about as well as it could have done. Plus they did a great job cleaning the carpet and tiles. The tiles/grout in the kitchen really looked about as clean as they've ever been. Very pleased with how things played out. The company certainly made the best of a bad situation and I was very pleased with how they did it. I'd certainly use them again. <br />"

"Freddy and his assistant arrived on time. They wore masks, gloves, and foot covers. Freddy measured my rooms and quoted me a number less that the quoted by phone. They got to work right away. I tired to stay out of they way to let them work. As a whole the carpet came out very well. However, our bedroom high traffic area was not as good. Am planning on have my area rugs cleaned later. The carpet dried in 24 hours and there were no strong smells."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Dumfries, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
