"Steve was very prompt in getting out to give me a quote. Emailed me the quote within a few days and called to follow up a few days later. He came and completed the job (built and installed a fireplace mantel and tore out and replaced stair railing and balusters) in a timely manner. Job was completed when he told me it would be done. Very happy with Steve Martin. Would definitely hire in the future if needed."

"Steve and his son did a fabulous job installing the railing! He helped with every step of the way , came when he said, worked independently- we didn't need to be there- and we love the work! It looks so beautiful coming in the front door and seeing the banister and railing. His rates were very affordable- it shows that you are better off contacting an expert and this is his specialty!! I highly recommend him!!"

Tony and his crew painted the exterior of a home I own in the Midtown Historic District in Harrisburg.  At the beginning of the project, they discovered rotted window frames and notified me quickly.  After I had the damage corrected, they went on to paint the siding and all the wood trim on this 1880's home.

I was very happy with the result.  The painting they did was absolutely perfect!  It looks fabulous, and several neighbors have complimented the job and asked for the contractor's info.

Tony was very communicative and was a pleasure to deal with.

I would definitely use again!

"Chad was a bit slow on the response initially, but with all the snow we had, it was understandable, just a bit of a hiccup at the beginning.  Once he got started, he worked some long days getting all the misc things completed.  Even made several trips back to the box store for items I picked up but were wrong.  I added a couple of things to his list after he started and he worked them in without a problem.
Next phase will be a bigger bite but waiting until the weather warms up as the house will be open during that time.  I will continue to use Chad a lot going forward."

"Mr. Ferree arrived on schedule, had the necessary parts, saw immediately what needed to be done, completed the job in a workmanlike manner, and showed me how to use the new "sharkbite" fittings he installed--they are different than those in the rest of my house. I would not hesitate to call him again for plumbing repairs.
The only negative involved communication in advance. Apparently he was ill for a few weeks, but I was unable to get a reply for some time after I purchased the special offer. In future I will expect better communication.

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in East Berlin, PA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
