"I recently had my shingle roof replaced by Royal Roofing & Siding, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The team was professional, courteous, and completed the project on schedule. They took the time to explain the different shingle options and made sure everything was installed properly. The new roof looks fantastic and has completely improved the appearance of my home. The crew cleaned up thoroughly after the job, and the entire experience was stress-free. If you’re looking for a trustworthy roofing company for a shingle roof replacement, I highly recommend Royal Roofing & Siding."

"Installation Date: Late August 2022 The roof installation and gutters were installed and look great. I DO NOT like what they did with the flashing on my chimney. It looked cheap, put together in haste, and with really bad and cheap materials. I had to call and argue with a representative to explain to him that the job they did on the chimney was horrible and that it had to be corrected. He tried to convince me it was the way it's done. I then showed him my neighbors house who had their roof done by another company. Power Home charges a premium and it didn't seem like they were very invested in the job they were doing. Additionally, the trash bin that was delivered was way to small and all the trash didn't fit. As a consequence, they left trash in front on my house and on my property for weeks after. I had to call a second time and resort to begging to get them to come by to pick up the trash. Overall, I feel like they didn't respect the job they were doing, the final touches were horrible, and they didn't treat my home with love or respect (as if it were their own home). Also, there is now a huge gap between the siding and the new roofing material. I fee they should have found and budgeted for a solution for that issue in the form of a bit of siding or flashing to minimize that gap. Now water and critters will get in through that gap. Overall, if I could do it again, I would defiantly NOT chose Power Home Remodeling. I DO NOT recommend them."

"It didn't go very well. The gentleman came and looked at the roof. He said that he would send us a summary of what he found but we never received it. He just looked at the roof, he never did any work. He was on time. I am less likely to use them again. He didn't really do any work, he just looked at the roof for 10/15 minutes."

"The Parsons crew came and replaced the roof on our house and detached garage as specified. The sales process seemed straightforward.
Couple of details worth mentioning:
As the work was performed, Kenny, the foreman asked us about doing some specialized work near the chimney--it was going to be an extra $500 or so. We weren't thrilled about this, but in retrospect it was money well spent. We had always had some trouble with water coming in through the chimney, but whatever they did in that area was the solution we needed.
There must be some kind of material or substance used in the roofing process that kills vegetation. The Parsons guys need to be a little more careful, because a couple big patches on my lawn turned yellow.
But the most troubling aspect of the experience was this: The east-facing side of my garage roof--which is tough to see, unless you're on my neighbor's property--was left unfinished. There was about a 5'X'5 space that had paper down but no shingles. I noticed this about 3 days after the job was done. When I called about it, the person at Parson's made it seem like they knew about it, that they ran out of supplies the day of the job and were going to come back and finish. Do I believe this? Mmmm, not so sure. But they did come back and finish it up right away.
Overall, I'm happy with the way the roof looks, and that they fixed the chimney. But I hesitate to recommend them.

"Two guys showed up on time and got to work immediately inspecting and vacuuming and snaking the fireplace and chimney flue. They operated form the roof and inspected the entire chimney from top to bottom. Both men answered my lay questions kindly and with plenty of detail about minor and major issues they found and the forecasted schedule of when I should address them. They did NOT do the classic inspect-and-force-you-into-buying-a-new-liner routine and that was much appreciated.  They took their time and did not rush the service or question/answers. They earned credibility and next year or so when I replace the liner, I will call upon them for sure. I recommend this company.

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in East Elmhurst, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
