"John replaced a roof and installed a hatch on my Bed Stuy brownstone. John was communicative and professional through the whole process. His team is fast and do excellent work. After a year, the hatch needed a small patch. John sent his team out on new years eve, patched the roof in under an hour and didn't charge me a penny. John runs his family business the way everyone should. I highly recommend JJ's roofing."

"Hired last year, roof was fine until snow collected on roof and began to melt and it was then it leaked into the house. I called and they responded which was good, they sent people to the house and hopefully repaired the leak but now I have to fix the water damage(to sheetrock) myself for the second time."

"He is licensed in New York State to do slate roofing, and to teach it. They were excellent. They do residential roofing and commercial roofing. I live in Queens, and he came out. They are in Nassau. The three guys did their job. I ask for an guarantee, and it was done over the phone, the same day. They were very good. They came out to give me an estimate, and they finished an roof in the neighborhood. They sent the three guys over, and they went on the roof, and took pictures. They showed me where my problem was, and I showed them my bedroom where the damaged was. I spoke to the owner, and spoke on the phone a little bit. We agreed on a price, and he gave me an guarantee for two years. I asked when can they do it, and he said, now. I said, wonderful, do it now. They are expertise with slate tiles. The guys were there, and didn't have a job in the afternoon, and completed in four hours. I had a valley with a peak on it, and an chimney. They put the membrane down, and cleaned up after. The workers were very polite. They cleaned up everything. They had to throw down a lot of damaged tiles, and stuff. They swept up the front of my house, and it looked better than when they came. I even called the owner up and told him how pleased I was. Being an woman, I always fear they see a woman, you never know when they might say lets get this woman. I think I paid a fair price, I paid for the job I got. I was very satisfied. A lot of times, what are you going to do jump on your roof, and see if its done right. I had done my research on them. I had an neighbor who use to do roofing when he was a young man. He would tell me look over here, its a great job. The membranes are done right, look at the gauge on the copper. I paid for it, but I got a good job. Being an woman, people might take an advantage. They were running around in Queens, roofers, said, you needed a new roof. A woman paid $4000, and she thought she was getting a new roof, but she got the silver coating. They were actually on the news. About how the home owners were getting rip offs with silver paint. Its silver coating to make your roof last longer. It reflects your roof in the summer, and reflects the cold in the winter. I got what I paid for. Not cheap. They even came a little earlier. I hopefully don't have to use them.

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in East Elmhurst, NY

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
