"This was a remodeling job. Ed finished 800 sq ft of basement. Framed walls, drywall, insulation, electrical outlets, suspended ceiling, lights, installed doors. (Flooring was done by a company he recommended.) He impressed me by carefully listening to what I wanted and provided valuable advice throughout the design and execution of the work. He started work promptly and skillfully coordinated the work of his employees and subcontractors so that there was very little downtime. Workers were very competent, friendly, and respectful to us, the homeowners. I highly recommend him for any type of remodeling or new construction project and would use him exclusively in the future. I want to recognize him for his quality work, competence, helpfulness, honesty and integrity."

"I called a few places for quotes. The first person to get back to me was Eric from Vangoye Home Improvement. It turned out that I was outside of their service area, but Eric took the time to listen to what my problem was. He then gave me the names of the products I needed and the steps I could take to fix it myself, as the problem wasn't as big or difficult as I originally thought. Not only will I be able to knock out this project in a weekend, it ended up saving me close to $300."

"We thought we needed foundation work. They not only told us that was incorrect. They directed us to a structural engineer who would be able to help us. No charge. Most appreciated."

"After a bit of confusion (due to a previous quote from another technician) regarding our deep crawl space, we and Ayers finally made a joint decision on the best system to use. Gage Pederson, the Foreman, did an outstanding job of explaining what they were going to do, kept us totally informed each step of the way, and repeated everything, along with the warranty at the end of the job. We felt free to ask any questions and Gage replied with confidence and quickly. I can’t say enough about this young man’s professionalism. Ayers needs to keep him long term, and putting him in sales earlier than later. He really knows his stuff. He gave us complete confidence that the trenching and encapsulated system will work! Cody Redman and Andy Best were also on the job and did an outstanding job. All three of these guys worked their tails off, not stopping for long. When they left each day, Gage was sure to say what time they would return the next day. They called each day to say they were on their way, and showed up sooner than their expected arrival. It was a real pleasure getting to know each one of them, and they were excellent representatives for the Ayers company. Congrats to a job well done!"

"Jim knows what he is doing and is very resourceful/creative at solving difficult problems.  He has been updating my 45 year old home since last summer.  If you expect a rigid 9a - 5p schedule, that may be difficult due to his purchasing of supplies, crew scheduling, and so on, but he will be there and do what needs to be done to get the job completed well.  Jim does not have a problem with fix-it/touch-up issues which may arise after the big job is done.  I recommend Jim highly and have other future projects, which he will be doing  as well.  In addition, Jim has replaced a outdoor basement window-well, custom built shelving/garden station in the garage, power washed the house exterior . . . the list is long! <br />"

"They were exceptional. Very prompt and clear communication throughout the project. Everything was completed on time and on budget with high quality, and they even made recommendations that exceeded expectations for what our landscaping could look like. Extremely friendly and easy to work with. We will absolutely work with them again and already recommended to our neighbors."

"Because I knew the problem I had was due to eaves trough overflow and not a ground water problem, I selected Great Lakes exterior sealing process before contacting them for an estimate. The representative who gave the estimate was very professional and efficient and the proposed cost was much less than I expected. The day the technician came to do the waterproofing, was so cold the equipment was frozen and could not process the material. There was 2 feet of snow on the ground also but he was undeterred and tried to thaw his equipment anyway. He was unsuccessful and had to schedule to return in two weeks. Before he left that day, he patched the cracks and holes inside the basement to be ready for the material to be pressured into the ground. Upon the return there was more snow but the temperature was lower. The job was completed within a couple hours despite needing to shovel a path around the house through 2 - 3 feet of snow. The outcome is that the basement has not leaked at all even though we have had all that snow melting and a couple early spring heavy rains."

"Eric came out and did the estimate about a week and half before he and his partner came to preform the work.  He was prompt and very professional.  Most importantly he made me feel comfortable.  In the past when I had a builder or contractor out to give an estimate they have made me feel like I don't know what I am doing and/or talking about because I am a woman.  Eric never made me feel that way the whole time I worked with him.  We are getting ready to put our house for sale and we needed a few things done to our partially finished basement.  The previous owners tried to finish the basement their self and cut a few corners in doing so.  Eric suggested a few inexpensive ways to fix these issues and make the basement look like a million dollars.  We will SO use Innovative Builders in the future.  Thank you so much for your hard work and making our home look amazing! <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Eau Claire, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
