"Job was completed in one day. It was convenient. I woke up with no hot water. Called Hill's (it was on a Friday) around 10am and they had one of their plumbers call me right back so I could explain the problem. He gave me a time that he would be at my home. He called me when he was on the way. He arrived at the time he had said he would (3:30pm). He showed me the problem. Water heater was leaking. (It was 22 years old). It needed to be replaced. I didn't have time or a truck to go purchase one myself. He replaced it and we had hot water by 6pm."

"Swift by name, and definitely by nature! At first, I thought “Swift” was just their last name—but it’s also the perfect description of their service. Scheduling was a breeze. They could’ve come out the same day, but since it was rainy and not too hot, I chose the first appointment the next morning. I received a text with my technician’s photo and a call about 30 minutes before arrival—great communication! EJ, my technician, was kind, professional, and very respectful of my not-yet-settled, slightly messy home. He was well-spoken, got right to work after a brief friendly chat, and checked both the inside and outside components of the system. Believe it or not, he didn’t find anything wrong. He mentioned it could be an intermittent issue, but rather than guessing or upselling me on unnecessary repairs, he was honest and transparent. That kind of integrity is rare and incredibly appreciated—especially in a specialized service industry. Tom, who was with EJ, handled the sales side but was equally knowledgeable. He patiently answered my (many) questions and explained what could be going on with the system. He also introduced me to their Comfort Club, which is genuinely a great value. For $199/year, they service your HVAC twice, waive all diagnostic fees (no limits), and give you 20% off repairs. Plus, their regular service fee is only $49—lower than most I've seen. Since my house tends to get warm in the evenings, they showed me what to check and encouraged me to call when it happens again. I hesitated at the thought of after-hours fees, but Tom said, “Join the club, and there won’t be a fee.” Simple and smart. I wholeheartedly recommend Swift Services. I'd gladly refer them to single moms, college students, or anyone who may feel unsure or overwhelmed when facing appliance issues. No pressure, no scare tactics—just trustworthy, efficient service. Exactly what you want when you're letting someone into your home. UPDATE: At 6pm i called because the AC was frozen (I thought.) EJ took the call, instead of the regular On Call Tech. He drove 40 minutes (I know this because the have a cool tracker) to come to my house. The AC was fine, again. I asked about a box on the side of the unit. Long story short, the previous homeowners had the power company put a Demand Restrictor on the unit which is limiting electricity to my AC and causing my sleepless nights. That'll be rectified ASAP, by the power company. "No Charge," said EJ."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Effingham, SC

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
