"Caleb was very professional and punctual. He arrived early and took his time to troubleshoot and explain everything to me. Although we did not hire him to complete any work, we will seek him out in the future if needed. It turns out that our issue is not an electrical issue."

"Mike is efficient and does a top-notch job. I am happy everyday when I look at my new recessed light in the kitchen and stairwell. The new outlet over the washing machine is perfect and looks fine. The replaced outlets work and look modern. I highly recommend Mike to do your electrical projects."

"I had issues with 2 lights and circuit breaker in my home and JA Electrical were a godsend. I heard back from them within minutes of placing online quotes in my area. I was able to get a tech, Antonio, out to my home the same day. He worked ho*** ** getting my issue resolved and he succeeded. He's very professional, timely, and I would highly recommend him and the company to anyone having issues."

"Jake was able to correct the complex wiring problem, even despite original 1938 wiring and cramped attic access. I was able to book an appointment online within 24 hours. I would not hesitate to hire these guys again for any electrical work big or small!"

"Larry and his crew upgraded our under cabinet lighting with new LED lighting, and specialized outlet. Not only was our home and its contents treated as if they lived here, the job was done professionally. So much so, that the only issue we had was when the switch/outlet face plate screws came loose. I didn’t even bother calling Larry, I tightened them myself. The lighting is on, literally 24 hours per day since the install, with zero issues. Love these guys."

"Everything went smoothly from the first call to set up the appointment to the performance of the work being done. Our electricians were knowledgeable and willing to brainstorm the most efficient & cost effective means for doing the work. They were willing to write a proposal to have the work done at a later date but I decided to pay them on a time and material basis because this is a vacation home and it is difficult for me to be there for repairs during the regular work week. Even though I was a little nervous about running up costs through time & material ($160/hr for 2 electricians on site), they worked diligently for 6 hours and, in the end, the cost was comparable to what the proposal would have been. I should also say that while most of the work could have been done by a handyman, I was willing to pay an electrician's hourly rate to insure that the work was done to code. They were also able to evaluate the general safety of the wiring in our home (which we had just purchased 4 months ago) as they worked on this project."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Elkton, MD

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
