"I had Spring Green for a while. Although they're cheaper than True Green, they weren't helping enough with weeds and each time there was a different person doing my lawn so there was no consistency or accountability. They spent a few seconds on my back lawn to do spot-weeding but would charge me for a weed and feed(!) My neighbors use True Green, but they are similar to Spring Green; huge outfit with lots of ads and will treat your lawn like they do everyone else's. Also, when I talked to True Green, they did a hard sales pitch and never came out to see my lawn. I finally called Barr and I've never been happier. Jeff met with me and after walking around my property, talked with me in depth about what was going on and what they could do for me. And later, the person they sent out is the same each time and he is also extremely knowledgable. after doing a "real" fertilizing with a spreader and spot-weeding, he suggested I mow higher (and not so close to the ground) and that I do one side of my front lawn *last* since I had dollar spot there 1 1/2 years ago... and be sure to wash the wheels of my mower so I didn't spread it. Of course, no other lawn service had told me that because these big franchises just don't care. Places like Spring Green and True Green need to get in and out and do a lot of lawns to make money and they never customize anything to your specific property. In my case, that means if I had brown spots, I still had brown spots a year later. It's frustrating because unless you're a horticulturist, you don't know why stuff is happening with your lawn--but Barr Landscaping does and they'll customize a treatment plan to your lawn. Price wise, Barr is right in there with Spring Green's price for regular treatments and their price for aeration is close to True Green's. If you have a choice, get it done right. Go for Barr's. Totally wort it."

"They’ve done landscaping where I work.  I checked around a little and I liked what they did.  They did a good job and I am very pleased with it.  It looks nice.  I wanted it done right the first time and that’s what they did.  I didn’t want something to happen to it in two years; I wanted something that was going to last. I wanted it to look high quality and not just get by.  They used antique-looking bricks; that took extra time.  I’m on a hill so it cost a little more because of that.  I had to have it done that way so it would stay.   I didn’t want to put that much money into it and have something happen to it.  There is no warranty. When he came out, it wasn’t fast.  I didn’t want fast, I wanted quality; I wanted it done right.  I wanted it done at a certain time because of my son was getting married.  He got done in time and he had it all cleaned up and ready.  When he left, it was done and I was very pleased.  That makes a big difference.  I didn’t have to do anything because I didn’t have the time to mess with it.  That’s why I had him do it instead of us doing it; we’re usually DIY.  He had it all done and I didn’t have to worry.  That was the important thing – I didn’t have to worry.  It was a little pricey but it was still a good price.  I would use him again because he knows what he’s doing."

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in Elmwood, IL

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
