"We hired Wright Brothers to do our basement remodel that included a full bar, guest bedroom, bathroom, and a lot of custom millwork (i.e built in entertainment center, wainscoting, base trim and window casing). Although we had a design in mind before we hired Wright Brothers, they were able to offer suggestions to improve what we had already started. Their prices were very fair and the communication from the beginning to the end of the project was outstanding. We never felt pressured to do anything and they were always upfront and transparent when items outside the scope of work were identified. Guests are constantly amazed when they walk in our basement and see the before and after pictures. It is a place our family will use for many years to come thanks to the quality, dependability and integrity Cameron and Jordan put into their jobs."

"Dylan did an amazing job on my living room remodel project. I needed to replace an '80s wood banister with a floor to ceiling wall, along with adding wood planks to the ceiling. He exceeded my expectations and I am so happy with the look of my new living room!"

"This was a complete rebuild. My 1970s style bathroom complete with carpet was replaced. Bathtub and a wall removed, new custom shower, new flooring, new wall tile, new lights, baseboards and some drywall work. How did it go? Slightly below budget, on time, absolutely perfect worksmanship. I've had decks, kitchens, staircases and now 3 bathrooms remodeled in the last few years. Tom is the best contractor I've hired and a really nice guy, he really knows what he is doing. If you get a bid that is slightly lower than Toms, skip it and go with Tom, you won't have to worry about how it will turn out."

"We use Otto's remodeling for all of our home and rental projects. They do everything from A-Z in full code compliance as verified by inspectors. They show up like clockwork, clean up each day before leaving, and stay on the job until completion. They are very reasonable, easy to work with, and have great input on how best to handle the task at hand. Strongly recommend."

"We are very pleased with the work Affordable Flooring and Remodeling . The showroom is way across on the other side of town from us, but working with this excellent family-run business is a couple of trips. We went with pre-finished hardwood. Mariya is very helpful with flooring choices. Max came out on a Sunday to do the estimate. After getting other estimates, we decided to go with AFand R. They offered the best price. The hardwood was for our entire main level: kitchen, dining room, living room and steps to our front door. About 600 square feet. We have an upright piano, a large china cabinet and a grandfather clock, and the estimate included moving these items along with the refrigerator and stove. Our refrigerator ran the whole time. Our kitchen and steps had laminate flooring while the rest of the area had original carpeting. The kitchen also had vinyl under the laminate. There was an additional cost to remove the vinyl and build up the subfloor to match the rest of the main floor, but very reasonable. The installation started on a Tuesday mid-morning and was complete by early Friday evening. Oleg, the primary installation expert, did most of the work himself, staying until 7 p.m. a couple nights. The way the flooring is laid out is beautiful and the work very-well done. Everything stayed very neat and clean. Thank you!"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Empire, CO

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
