"Quality work with a lifetime guarantee on no cracks and a dry basement. I originally had a problem with the way an employee explained the warranty to me. She indicated that it was void because I had not contacted the company within 30 of my brother's death. However, a spokesperson from the company today told me that that was incorrect information. They are restoring the lifetime warranty in my name at no charge. I am pleased with how they handled my complaint."

"Things I liked: David and his crew were extremely polite, personable, and professional. (The "three ps" of a good contractor.) They were willing to work around my schedule, particularly because of the later start. These guys were fast...like really fast. Got my job done in a day! Everything was explained to me, and I got some instructions on care and limitations of finishing over top of their trenches. They came back to do some brief touch-up work the next day, and left everything clean and tidy. David even worked around some of the goofy stuff in my basement. You know, the stuff you might find in a 100+ year-old house. All of the various drains, services, and pipes were left untouched, which is impressive because some of them were veeeeeery close to the perimeter where they were installing the drain. Lastly, my basement is now dry. Had a deluge of rain immediately following the work and I have not seen a drop! :D Things that could be improved on: Price - I mean, a price can always be lower, but their price is definitely fair for what is included. Their system was more expensive than some of their competitors, but there were several things about it that I preferred over others. Punctuality - The digital appointment card I was sent was for 8 AM so I was under the impression that they would arrive then (or soon after). I called at 9 to check in and was told they'd be there at 12:30 PM. This was not a problem for me, but I wish I had been told that earlier. Granted, the appointment I was sent could have just be left at the default time. Either way, not a big deal, but a bit of miscommunication. Bottom line: David and his crew were excellent. I would hire them again. My basement is dry. :D"

"They responded quickly. There was a little bit of concern whether the work gets done or not the reason I think there is still visible changes to the roof but he did came back and kind of walk us through the process of what he did do and it was only visible from the inside which is why we didn't see anything on the outside."

"They were very professional, considerate, and went out of their way to make everything go as smoothly as possible. They also stayed past working hours to finish up the job. I am having them back to do more projects."

"There was some minor issues around some communication during the process. but the final result was great. The estimate was emailed from Jim, but was told to talk to Shannon. <br /> <ul> <li> The initial estimate mentioned our garage, but we did not want our garage painted. Estimate price not changed. Oops we did not mean to mention that, was thinking of other house we were estimating.</li> <li></li> <li>We matched colors twice when they were finally ready to buy the paint; they misplaced the color choices from the first time we did this. They want 1/2 payment up front, which is not something I was accustomed to. It makes sense I guess, but I was not accustomed to writing such large checks in the first place. </li> <li></li> <li>But then Shannon came for the second check before the job was finished to save him a trip over to Mount Vernon, which again makes sense, but again --- I was not comfortable writing $3250 checks on demand especially before work was complete. But it worked out. </li> <li></li> <li> The nasty Iowa weather interfered with their ability to paint entire house in one week. They did come by within reasonable time after that to finish up. I work from home, so having my house wrapped in paper on the windows for those extra days was nerve-wracking. But on the positive, they did the entire taping and masking over the windows type thing.</li> <li></li> <li>We were very pleased with the final result. We really were impressed with Jim's work crew, their foreman "Willie", and the work they did.</li> </ul> <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Evansdale, IA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
