"I live in Maple Grove and my radon levels were over 12.3 which I found by completing a radon test from Air Chek. I contacted Andrew at A1 based on the wonderful reviews I was able to find online. I contacted Andrew through Angies List and he responded within 24 hours and had a quote for me within a couple hours of speaking with him. He fit me into his schedule and was at my home a couple of weeks later to do the work. Upon arriving I felt very comfortable as Andrew and his co-worker were very conscience of the current Covid-19 fears. They wore masks the entire time and kept everything clean and organized. They installed the system in about 2 hours which included having an electrician come in and wire up the fan in the attic space above my garage. The electrician Andrew uses was very professional and did a fantastic job keeping everything safe, secure and clean in the wiring. The quote I received from Andrew was spot on and less than the other 2 companies I reached out to. I waited a couple of weeks and then used the 2 Air Chek tests that Andrew had left behind for me to use to check both levels of our house. The basement test came back at 2.7 and the upstairs came back at 1.5. This was during some of the coldest parts of the winter so the house was locked up tight with no windows open. I am so happy and feel so much safer in my home for not only myself but my family and pets. You cant put a price on piece of mind but if you could I believe Andrew delivered a great service with a low cost to my wallet. Thanks to Andrew and his team for a fantastic experience that started out with me being very scared of the high radon levels in my home."

"Awesome 🤩 was/is James Nelson, Design Specialist with American Waterworks, out of the Fargo, ND office was absolutely wonderful to work with. (Really this Company has impressed us from the beginning!) always quick to respond and very patient…. There was zero pressure …. no pushy sales tactics at all — just good information, very clear explanations, and genuine care. He took the time to answer questions, explain good options, and made us feel comfortable and valued as people, not just potential customers. From the very beginning, And even now after James has been yet kind and incredibly understanding of our situation. Unfortunately We are not able to move forward with our basement project at this time, and James has showed nothing but grace and respect about that. No doubt that James is a true professional and a rare find these days. We absolutely 💯 Highly, highly recommend James and American Waterworks And Solutions… We thank you!!"

"Radon stoppers was the most competitive bid, minimally intrusive interior install, barely visible outside, electrician was very thorough including wiring lights in the garage attic, fan operates quietly, the only contractor would who do a pre-installation assessment, adhered to the contract bid, install happened soon after the bid and most importantly our radon level was 6.2 pCi/L prior to the install/.8 pCi/L after."

"I received three bids that were all competitive with each other. Walt differentiated himself, however, with his detailed, knowledgeable approach, elegant solution, and follow-up upon completion. His team stood out with their focused, diligent efforts to complete the work the day they started while overcoming some unforeseen challenges. Highly recommended."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Farmington, MN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
