"We selected DMV based on our previous experience with the company, starting with Rolando who successfully remodeled our kitchen and 3 baths back in 2015. This time we had an emergency and Javier responded quickly, asking his men to remove a cracked tub and demolish the surrounding tiles. In their place they installed a new tub and plumbing plus beautiful new tiles for the surrounding wall, adding 2 grab bars, one for the tub and the other for the Master shower to prevent our slipping and falling. They cleaned the grout in our Master shower and Hall tub, applied silicone and sealant, and painted the baseboard and wall near the tub. Aside from the work in the bathroom and shower, they replaced the screen in an exterior window, secured some areas in the garage ceiling with screws, and removed, painted and reinstalled our exterior shutters. Muchas gracias to David and David! Bon trabajo! During the early, uncertain days of the Pandemic when we were nervous to have anyone do remodeling inside our house, we asked Javier to do some work outdoors. He ordered a wood storage shed from Home Depot and it was delivered to our front yard without telling anyone. The DMV men unpacked the box and discovered some necessary parts were missing so returned to Home Depot to buy them. They leveled the slope in our backyard and set the foundation for the shed. Then they added shingles, windows, doors, and a ramp. They painted the outside of the shed and added a ramp, selecting a sturdier paint for the latter. They installed a screen all around the bottom edge of the shed to provide ventilation and keep the animals out. Finally they moved the items to be stored from our garage to the new shed, opening up more space in the garage for the remodeling of the 1st and 2nd floors of our house. Muchas gracias to Jose, Carmina, Orlando, and Wilmer! Bon trabajo! Finally after a long wait due to the Pandemic we remodeled the 1st and 2nd floors of our house with Javier once again in charge. The workmen skillfully disassembled and/or moved furniture, file cabinets, supplies, and 100s of books and other items to different locations in the house and garage. Then they installed new lighting: 53 recessed lights, 9 dimmers, and a new electrical outlet near the vanity. When a bookcase was added on the right side of my new digital organ they moved the organ to the left along with 2 recessed lights shining above the organ to more effectively illuminate the music rack. And finally they installed a special circuit breaker for the organ. They installed cabling for 3 internet connections to the computer network giving access to the basement, living room, and 2nd floor. They installed the wiring for electrical power to 3 printers, one on each floor. Next they replaced our carpet with beautiful hardwood floors in 7 rooms, a small hallway, and a stairway. They removed 5 single doors on the 2nd floor and replaced them with solid core doors. They installed and painted 2 bi-folding doors for our utility closets. They painted the walls in 7 rooms, a small hallway, and a stairway first removing wallpaper in one room and 2 wall borders. They took special care in the den, repairing one wall and a big hole in the ceiling before painting. They did a great job of painting the ceilings, touching up 4 textured ceilings and smoothing out 3 others in a more elaborate process that included repairing drywall and removing texture, preparing the ceiling for painting, and then actually painting it. They installed and painted shoe molding in 7 rooms. And last but not least they repaired bathroom door frame and painted the nearby wall and a baseboard that had some paint splotches from a previous job. The DMV workmen did some additional jobs not related to repairing and painting walls and ceilings, or installing hardwood floors. The installed 5 smoke detectors, 7 curtain rods, a new Bosch dishwasher, and new blinds to replace blinds accidently damaged. They caulked a bathtub, cleaned grout in a shower and caulked the area near its door. In order to prevent heavy bookcases from toppling over they secured 10 bookcases to the wall. And in a final visit they even tightened screws in the kitchen cabinets installed by the previous DMV contractor. Muchas gracias to the 2 Maynors, Geovany, Jesus, David, Danillo, Diego and the flooring team, Grover, Luis, Orlando, and Fairo. Bon travajo! The quality of materials and workmanship on the outdoor shed and remodeling of bathroom, first and second floors was exceptional. Because we are an elderly couple we really appreciated the extra help in moving things around throughout the projects. The workmen were punctual, polite, honest, skilled, hardworking, and flexible in adjusting to changes from time to time. They always took care in sealing off work areas, covering floors, and cleaning up at the end of the day. The price seems reasonable because sometimes they did extra work not previously budgeted like extra painting or changes when were not satisfied or had new ideas. Javier is great at planning, communicating and executing the work, but could certainly benefit from having a right-hand man to assist him when he is not immediately available. We would highly recommend DMV and have already signed a contract for remodeling our basement that includes vinyl flooring, lighting, painting, and installation of storage shelves. "We had a great experience with Charles Graves Painting. They are responsive, prompt, and the quality of the work is excellent. In addition to interior painting, they installed wall molding in my master bedroom, and it turned out great. In addition, they finished two floors of rooms with tall ceilings (including the molding installation) in less than 2 days, and with very dark paint colors. All the painters wore masks and were extremely conscientious. I would highly recommend them."

"I wanted to upgrade my Master bath and boy did I ever! I had Gary and his crew at REO-SERVICEPRO gut my standard bathroom to a dual shower, steam sauna and spa! They put in new tile and added body sprays, heated floor, and towel warmer. It was my dream bathroom and REO-SERVICEPRO made it a reality. Great customer service and consideration of all my ideas, needs, and wants! I would recommend them HIGHLY!"

"We love our new shower and tub that Noah installed for us last week. He was able to remove the old tub by himself and then worked through a downpour to make sure our bathroom was finished in two days instead of the planned three days. We will definitely be recommending Five Star Bath Solutions to our friends and family."

"Long Baths is simply great. They installed the shower of my dream that through no fault of their own succumbed to a manufactures defect. Chris Reynard and Long Baths worked fast and replaced my shower covered by my warranty at no additional charge. I am thankful to know I worked with a company that stood by their work and lifetime warranty."

"We had a wonderful experience in contracting with Munoz Construction LLC for a thorough bathroom remodel in October 2024. Mr. Munoz worked with us each step of the way from advising us on our original design plans, to scheduling the construction work, and closely overseeing its completion and quality. His expert team demolished our old bathroom in one day, and cleaned up so well afterwards that one could hardly tell any construction work was underway in the house. Each weekday for the next two weeks Jose's experienced team rebuilt the bathroom from the ground up. They replaced old subflooring where there had been water damage; installed a new bathtub, wall and floor tile, added recessed ceiling lights and extra electrical outlets, and recessed shelves in the wall, a new vanity, toilet and all the fixtures. The final touch was a beautiful paint job. The excellent workmanship, attention to detail, daily clean-up, and meticulousness of his highly experienced crew completely met our hopes. Each day, Jose Munoz personally came by to check on the work and quality, and consult with us. The entire project came in on time and on budget. We were absolutely delighted with the final look, the attention to detail, and the professionalism of Jose and his team members who were scrupulously polite, talented artisans, and a pleasure to have in our home. We couldn't be more pleased with our entire experience and look forward to working with him on our next remodeling project."

"Over the past two years I've used Matt and his Living Color team on multiple projects in my 4-story Arlington town home, including repainting my interior, refinishing and installing wood flooring, installing custom iron railing in my stairways, and repairing water damage to a 2nd story deck. In every case Living Color has been great. Matt, the owner, is a consummate pro who puts clients first. Pricing is very fair for the market. For each project he took care to send the same crew and crew chief, who now know my home. His team are always polite, professional, qualified and efficient. Lastly, I've been at home during all projects, and have noticed that the crew work well as a team and seem to enjoy their work, which to me, importantly, speaks well of how Matt runs his business and treats his employees. I'd recommend Living Color without hesitation, and I'll call on them again when the need arises."

"This is our second time contracting with Omar at All Renovations and using the install team of Edwin and Ferdys. They had recently renovated our main bathroom and had done a fantastic job.  My wife loves working with them. Omar is very prompt in providing cost estimates and breaking down costs for making decisions on individual job components. The install team is prompt, courteous, professional craftsmen that take care of your house and offer helpful suggestions during the job. They put cardboard on the floors to protect access areas, covered doorways to prevent dust from traveling to nonwork areas and cleaned up the job site daily. We had purchased some nice, unused cabinetry at the Re-store on Route 1 in Alexandria.  However, it was not custom designed for our kitchen. And consequently, it took some extra effort on the part of Edwin and Ferdys to make it all fit together seamlessly. They also had to make some custom shelves that were missing from our 'new' cabinets. I'm not sure many contractors would want to bother with a job like this.  We are very happy with the end product and would recommend them to others."

FAQs for bathtub installation and replacement projects in Fort Myer, VA

Most tubs last an average of 20 years, or closer to 10 to 15 if they’re acrylic or fiberglass. If you’re seeing persistent leaks, cracks, stubborn stains, or mold that won’t scrub away, it’s time to start shopping for a replacement. Out-of-date features and visible water damage are other red flags. Swapping the tub now protects your bathroom from bigger (and pricier) repairs down the road.

You should install your tub in a location that complements your bathroom's layout, plumbing connections, and personal preferences. Consider placing it near existing plumbing to minimize installation costs. Many homeowners position their tubs to take advantage of natural light or scenic outdoor views, enhancing relaxation.

Ensure there's sufficient space around the tub for easy access and safety, especially if accessibility is a concern. Ultimately, the ideal spot is where the tub fits seamlessly with your bathroom design and provides the most comfort and convenience for your needs.

Replacing a bathtub takes just one or two days if you hire a pro to handle the job. They'll remove the old tub and install the new one efficiently. If you're considering doing it yourself, be prepared for it to take much longer, possibly up to a month. That's because you'll need to remove the old tub and drywall, install the new tub, repair the walls, and maybe tackle new tiling. Weigh the time commitment against potential cost savings to decide what's best for you.

Converting your tub to a shower transforms your bathroom with a modern and accessible design. The average cost to convert a tub to a shower ranges from $2,000 to $10,500, based on the required plumbing, tiling, and structural modifications. This upgrade maximizes space while boosting functionality and aesthetics in your bathroom.
