"The job went fantastic. They were punctual, professional and affordable. I highly recommend them for basement finishing. They did the framing, electrical, and drywall. My husband and I did all the trim work, wainscoting, and light fixtures. Someone else installed the flooring. They were finished in three weeks time. Unfortunately I could not get my photos past the framing to load."

"We chose 5 roofing contractors from Angie's List. When they came to give us an estimate we told them that price was not our only criteria, we wanted a quality job. Honestly they all seemed fine except for one thing or another. For example , in 1 estimate the gutter had a grater type screen, I didn't like it. Another estimate the contractor did his math wrong and his estimate was half of everyone else. I think they would have been fine but.... In the end we chose Beams because of Brad Rigney. He came and gave an estimate and nailed down a shingle on the house next door for us, the estimate was competitive with the others and frankly Brad impressed us both. When the work crew showed up Brad was there to introduce us to the work foreman Ceasar and showed him specifics like the trim we needed replaced and that we were keeping our down spouts. Then the crew went to work and removed our old roof and laid down some sort of under roof that was waterproof and insulated. (I worried about rain noise. If you've ever been in a barn during a rain storm you know the noise can be deafening.) anyway, the next day they put the roof on and that evening we had a rain storm, no noise, not a whisper. So they came ,they roofed, they cleaned up and a few days later(weather delay) the gutter sub-contractors came and within 2-3 hours had the new gutters on. Thru it all Brad kept in touch and on top of everything. One small snafu, the preliminary contract called for 5" white gutters, however by the final contract I wanted 6" green gutters to match our new metal roof. When the gutter contractors came , they had run out 25' of 5" white gutters. When we told them it wasn't correct they called Brad he talked to them and they said they would be back tomorrow with the right product. And they were, no fuss no muss no anger just kinda oops our bad. I have hated dealing with contractors in the past. ( we've all been through it ) With Brad as Beams representative we were in excellent hands. I only gave Beams a B on price because it wasn't the cheapest estimate, but I do believe it was the best and I would recommend them to anyone. the whole experience was hassle free and how many times can you say that about a contractor that has worked on your home."

"It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. There was an issue with it and I got a refund for it. I called them and they said they had already come when I wasn't home. They said they inspected it and I needed all this repair work. There wasn't any evidence that they had been there to inspect my roof. You would have to get up on a ladder and there was no sign they had been there. The gutters hadn't been touched. I didn't believe they had actually been there. I felt they were selling me a package that they could sell to anybody. I didn't feel like I got anything for the purchase so I got a refund for it. They didn't do what they claimed they did."

"The Redemption painters came on time as scheduled or notified me when they would be late.  They did a fine job with the work, were neat and courteous.  They worked well with my decorator, who had recommended them and who did most of the communication with them.   <br /> There turned out to be a problem with the dining room paint, which was a dark color and a new type of paint for the company.  This problem had nothing to do with Redemption but was a problem with the paint itself.  Lance, the owner of Redemption came back and took very seriously the problem.  He worked with the paint company, had them come in and look at the performance of the paint, and eventually repainted the room at no charge to me. It was still exactly the color I wanted, but without the original problem. I really appreciated their willingness to deal with this issue, which was not their fault, in a timely way. <br /> After the job was done I had some light fixtures changed and there were several small areas in the ceiling that needed touch up.  They came back immediately and took care of that too. <br /> I was very pleased with their service and would use them again.  In fact I am waiting for an estimate on sealing my greenhouse, which I hope they will do for me in the near future. <br />"

"The job went very well including the additional information he provided my spouse about other concerns that we need to address down the road to ensure our safety and replacement of one of the fans missing a blade. Very helpful and professional."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Fort Knox, KY

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
