"I would highly recommend HFI to anyone looking to install and or refinish hardwood floors. They were very responsive and stood behind their work 100%. They are busy so prepare to wait a few weeks before They start but worth it!"

"This was a long time ago so details are a little bit fuzzy. However, we were very impressed with the staff at the store location and the crew that came out to do the installation. The carpet is still holding up very well after over 3 years. Pick a quality carpet from them, and Jimmy's will do a good job on the install. The folks in the store are very friendly and know their stuff."

"Excellent service! Made a call to request a price quote, Barbara was able to come out and take measurements that afternoon, called w/estimate the next day, and worked with my schedule to get the work on the calendar. Their installers knocked out the work in one day (second floor and staircase of a small Cape Cod), including removal of old carpet, and everything looked great when they were done!"

"Their services and representatives were excellent. Laurel was my customer service rep and I enjoyed working with her. She was very helpful in providing me ideas and things to consider during my carpet selection. She addressed all of my concerns. The team doing the installation was great, very professional and cleaned up everything and moved the furniture back in its place. I will use this company again when it comes to replace the carpet upstairs in my home."

"I used Kohmar to clean the duct work as well as the carpets in the house that I was renting a couple of years ago. I had such wonderful results, I called them back out to clean the duct work of a home I recently purchased. They are, as always, professional, responsive, courteous and highly effective. I could not be happier.

"Colonial Carpet One Floor and Home is a franchise, which is locally owned and operated. They did the job on time. They showed up on time. They did the exact job and finished within the day. I was completely satisfied. I will probably use them again if ever need flooring done. I lived over thirty years in the Washington DC area where the prices are much more expensive. So when I come down here, to Colonial Heights, which is my own town, twenty miles away, south of Washington DC, everything seems reasonable to me. It is because of the lower cost of living in Colonial Heights. I could afford it. I don't know how to judge price. I guess it is competitive. However, but since it is the only company I have dealt with, I have nothing to compare with. The quality of work was excellent. They are very responsive. They are always on time. They are very professional."

"I use Perfect Clean a few times a year to clean carpeted rooms and bathroom tile floors. They are professional, have fair pricing and care about doing a good job. The midcentury tile in our bathrooms look completely new after they leave. They do a great job on carpet too. They go over the work with you before they leave, and I've never had issues with spots appearing afterwards. In addition to meticulous work, they are courteous and good about communicating. They'll call to confirm your appointment and again when they are on their way.

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Fort Lee, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
