"Good job with work and interfacing with out other work crew. Concerns over the system design, which uses zones that cross from full sun to full shade. In hindsight, I wish they had planned that better with a shade zone, then a sun zone, so we could more evenly water the lawn. In July we were having to underwater the full sun and flood the shade sections. They came out months later and fixed a defective head. Some of the access panels are really too high, but overall a job well done."

"The installation went very well. Kevin and I reviewed the work that I wanted done from the estimate that he had given me previously. After review we made some modifications to the plan and then the real work got started. The Vortex team went about their work in a very professional manner. They removed the old and very clogged up existing drain line, being careful to avoid an electrical wiring conduit and my water supply line. A 12" pvc drainage basin was installed along with enough 4" pvc pipe to reach into the natural area beyond the nearest edge of my yard. Some of the dug out rock was used to provide protection to the exposed end of the pipe. Two of the gutter downspouts from my porch were tied into the system to help move that water away from the house as well. After the trench was filled in, grass seed and hay were spread in the trenched areas. Finally, the drain was tested with a water hose to verify that water would indeed drain out. To install the new basin and drain pipe, they had to disturb a small flower bed. I did not expect them to fix this, but they did, including reshaping the border bricks to fit around the new larger drain basin. As far as I'm concerned, this was going above and beyond in the customer service department. I very much appreciated this added touch!"

"I contacted them on Saturday when I noticed the yard was soggy while mowing the lawn.   I knew it was the water line as it originated directly above the line from the meter to the house.  I had the city turn off the water and then found Pipetechs Plumbing on Angie's list.  Pipetechs explained they couldn't dig until all the utilities were marked.  So I made an appointment for Monday morning.  They came first thing Monday, explained exactly what they would do, and gave me the estimate - and they called in the emergency utility markings.  The utilities were marked later that day.  Initially, they offered to find the leak and fix only the spot that was leaking but since I had the grey polybutl pipe - that is know to fail and is no longer used in the United States, they agreed replacing the entire line was a better approach.  Pipetechs showed up Tuesday morning, dug the trench, laid the new line, and we had water working in the house by mid-afternoon. <br /> The city inspector reviewed the work the following day and Pipetechs returned to fill the trench, put down grass seed and straw on the lawn and pinestraw the garden beds.   <br /> Jake explained everything they were going to do and answered all of my questions.  They did a great job. <br /> <br />"

"Not really sure what changed, but Eco Irrigation was my go-to company for various sprinkler system problems (residential) for the past few years.  Then, recently, I called for a quote on a simple pvc pipe extension and, after a phone conversation with Tom and some texts/emails, I never heard back.  His  first response to my initial request for service was that it was against code.  I had to explain that I wanted the pipe in question extended OUTSIDE the unfinished studs (i.e. not inside) in anticipation of new Sheetrock in my garage.  I checked the code and there is no issue.  So, Instead of confirming that we were on the same page, or even acknowledging my clarifying e-mail back to him, I rec'd no returned calls or emails.  That was it, they'd evidently decided, without informing me, that they'd rather not take the job.  I utilized Absolute Backflow for what turned out to be a 40 min job.  I won't be using Eco Irrigation again as a result. <br />"

"Everything went perfectly, there was a bit of a delay due to weather but once they started, they worked until it was completed. Everything looks great and the French drain has been a life saver this year. The Back yard is the best it has looked in a long time. <br /> I will call them again this fall for shrub trimming and to put down a fresh layer of mulch. <br />"

"Our soil is all clay which has the highest risk of damaging a foundation as it alternates between wet and dry. Even a light rain would leave us a soggy yard for days as most of the roof drained to the lawn via downspouts or popups. Water would collect at the front of our house because the front yard and driveway sloped down to the house. The builder used flimsy corrugated plastic tubes for underground connections to pop ups on the lawn. (One of flimsy tubes was blocked with debris.) Drain Designs did an excellent job connecting new commercial grade 4 inch PVC pipes to all downspouts plus installed two surface drains to collect water at the house front. The three-team crew (Rob, Dalton and Jonny) were courteous, skilled and hard working. They hand dug trenches next to the foundation against our home, carefully removing any plants which they watered and set aside. The PVC pipes were placed and securely connected with screws. All of the roof’s rain was directed through the underground PVCs to the woods behind our house. Downspout cleanouts for flushing were placed. The plants were replanted so carefully that neighbors could not tell that the work had been done. In the following week we had two intense downpours during which the new system worked flawlessly. No water pooled at the front of the house or in our yard. We highly recommend Drain Designs. BTW, their guarantee is a lifetime…not my lifetime but the home’s because it’s a Transferable Lifetime Warranty."

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in Franklinton, NC

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
