"Hired them to install a lock-out kit on my circuit breaker panel, an outside outlet to connect my generator, and a power-back alarm. The owner, Chris, arrived on time to do the quote and was very clear and helpful. The installers also were prompt, did an excellent installation, simulated a power outage, and showed my how to switch the whole house over to the generator. "

"Outstanding Service from Technicians Dennis and David, Haas and Sons Electric!!! We hired Haas and Sons Electric at 8:30am on 12/15/25. They responded, scheduled and completed the work before 2PM the same day. Haas and Sons Electric addressed a wiring issue related to the doorbell / security camera. Dennis and David were exceptional! They called while enroute and arrived promptly as scheduled for the appointment. They immediately demonstrated high levels of professionalism and knowledge about our electrical issue: Dennis answered all our questions and patiently walked us through their diagnostic process. He also clearly explained the factors related to the wiring connection between the doorbell wiring by the builder (of the home) and the security camera equipment installation related to the root cause of the issue. The quality of work was superb. David replaced the doorbell system and all its necessary equipment components efficiently and ensured all new wiring was up to code, meticulously cleaning the work areas afterward. We appreciated their honest approach and made recommendations for future maintenance without any sales pressure. We are extremely satisfied with the results and will use Haas and Sons Electric for all future electrical needs. In my entire community, Haas and Sons Electric are highly recommended for their expertise, integrity, and excellent customer service."

"Antonio was great. I had 2 ceiling fans installed on a 15 foot high pitched ceiling. The fans I purchased were meant for a ceiling with a much smaller pitch so they were not able hang straight as is. I thought I would have to wait and buy some additional hardware to complete the job but Antonio clearly communicated with me to show me why they wouldn’t work and talked me through a few ideas he wanted to try to make it work. It took a bit more time but in the end he was able to make some cuts and holes to the fans and they worked out great in the end. He saved me some time and money so I was happy to leave him with a tip. "

"Job was done right and efficiently. I purchased their membership for ~$13 a month (1yr commitment) b/c we has just bought a new house and it brought the cost down. Subtracting 1 star b/c with the membership I was sold, I was supposed to receive a free house check, which didn’t happen. Electrician just installed the station and was ready to go. I’ve guy though, and did good work."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Glenwood, MD

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
