"Main Street Oriental Rugs did a great job cleaning our Persian rug. We accidentally dropped a wine glass and splashed red wine all along a white border. Main Street came to the rescue. They picked up the rug the same day that I called, moved a heavy coffee table to get to it, and returned it, clean, as promised 10 days later. They did a deep cleaning and I can honestly say the colors are more vibrant now than when we sent it out. The red spots have vanished and we are very pleased with the outcome. We could not be happier. Thank you so much."

"This was a great experience. Jack's Tile and Carpet was recommended to us by our neighbors, who had hired the company to install hardwood flooring and were very pleased with the result. We were interested in porcelain tile for our kitchen. Krystal and Roseanne were very helpful in the showroom, answering our questions, steering us in the right direction, and responding to emails in a timely fashion. All the workers who came out to our house (Daniel, David, Taylor, Barry, and Larry) were punctual, polite, and cleaned up after themselves. When we ran into a problem, Jack was shortly on the scene and able to get a carpenter involved so that the project timeline remained the same. Throughout the whole process Jack and Robert Hall kept open the lines of communication, quickly responding to our concerns."

"We contacted Pete and his team to help repair the carpeting in our home that after just 3 years after installation, had begun buckling and bubbling due to improper installation by our builder.  Pete was very responsive to our need and provided us a quote within a day and we scheduled our service.  He is very knowledgeable and his team was very friendly, respectful, and did phenomenal work while taking special care not to damage any furniture or leave any mess behind.  The end result was that our carpet looked brand new and we are now confident that it is properly secured and will last a much longer time.  Thanks Pete & Team!"

"We had Weaver install COREtec Flooring in our basement as part if a remodel. The product is excellent so far, and the materials price was good, 780 sq/ft with 3 pc of matching transitions for doorways $3187.00 material and tax. This left labor at $2268 (to 2 guys for what turned out to be at most 10 hours of work for them to put it in) 2.85 sq/ft + $ 50.00 mat/labor includes 25lbs patch and latex additive. At first, I was stunned that I effectively was paying an hourly rate of over $113/hr. I brought this up to Weaver, and they basically said, that is the rate, like it or not. I found out that they are correct. These installers really do get these rates, although I am sure Weaver gets some of it. The floor looks great. If I look at the price as a whole, I think it is worth it. When I break it down, I think I feel like I was taken a bit on the price somewhere. After all, it really did take those guys less than 10 hours to put in the floor, and I really did give them $2268."

"I highly recommend Water Damage DMV. We had two rooms in the basement damaged from heavy rainfall. We called 2 other "5 star" companies and this one was the only one to respond within 48 hours (not good when water is draining into your basement with mold growth). Very reasonable cost which was commented on by our insurance company (unfortunately we do not have coverage for flooding but good to know about the cost) unlike a few other companies they were dealing with. This company was extremely professional, provided excellent follow up services, flexible, responsive to our concerns, and rechecked for mold growth. They even came back a second time with the air blowers to re-dry one of the rooms after a second heavy rainfall. We were able to save the carpeting and padding in one of the rooms due to their immediate response thank goodness. No additional add on costs after the initial estimate and we were able to contract out drywall and paint repair with them at a very reasonable cost. I would give them 6 stars if I could."

"They did start a little later than told but in the end we were extremely happy with their workmanship, honesty and attention to detail. The deck turned out better than the original plan for instance, the long deck boards were to be divided in two but it made sense to run the boards in three pieces with a horizontal board. This resulted in no but joints on the long boards. Could not have asked for a better job."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Gloucester, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
