"Hal's work is top-notch but I grew increasingly frustrated with the timing and inconsistency of his work habits. His was one of several estimates I received and basically he said he would beat any estimate I received. The difference is that everyone else was going to use cedar and he only works with pressure-treated Southern yellow pine, which is less than half the cost of cedar. I was unsure of the durability and longevity of that product so I did extensive research online. Still unsure, I drive around the Twin Cities to see other jobs Hal did that gave stood the test of time and I decided to move forward. Clearly, the way he builds his fences require considerably more manual labor than those built with cedar posts and pickets so essentially instead of paying for the higher cost of cedar, you pay for increased labor costs. Unfortunately, Hal isn't as going as predicting when he will get jobs complete as he is completing them well. He was over a month late in getting started and I repeatedly had to call him to inquire about the delay. It was quite frustrating but since I didn't absolutely need the fence done by a certain date, I decided to practice patience. Once he finally started, most days he and his helper only worked 4 hours so the project dragged on far longer than I thought it would. Admittedly, there were a couple of weather-related days but other times when it was a perfect day, they wouldn't show up and I would give no idea when they were coming again. After I told him I really needed to have him be more communicative, he was and within a short time after that conversation, he completed the fence. The fence is beautiful and appears very sturdy. We'll see how it withstands time and weather but for now I am very happy with it. Hal does beautiful work but if you are on a strict timeline I would not recommend working with him. If you are flexible and don't mind putting more effort into communication, he is a great person to work with.

"Had Greene Construction install egress window in basement. Estimator was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain every option and detail. Installers were professional. They answered all my questions and made some alterations to where the extra dirt was put and provided extra tarps to cover the dirt in case of rain. I would definitely recommend and hire them again."

Initially we contacted him to replace some 65yr old windows, and he was the only contractor to bring to our attention that we had hail damage on the window wraps, siding, gutters, and roof. His experience really helped us thru the insurance claim process and it ended up being a huge cost savings for us. We were so impressed with his customer service, we decided to have him convert our 1-season porch into a 3-season porch, install tile flooring, replace some doors, and paint the interior and exterior of our home. He listened to our ideas, gave us options and suggestions, and helped create solutions for all of the projects. "The painting and trim repair went smoothly. The owner contacted me the day before they wanted to start, when the weather was looking up, and we met the next morning. This was about a week after I gave the go ahead on the proposal. The painters were out for three days, with thee the first day, two the second, and one the third to finish up.

I received an email update from the owner the second day to update me on progress and made it home early on the second and third days to check in. All went smoothly from my perspective. There was a bit of trade off on prep work for the front entrance area (going to remove next year so skimp on prep) and trim repair which worked out well and kept the project at cost. I spoke with the painter on site who'd managed the team at some length about the work and future options on the last day when work was wrapped up.

Note on price: I didn't have a chance to get additional bids before I wanted to go ahead so I don't have a basis for comparison, but the price seemed fair for the work and friends with similar experience concurred."

"Ed and his crew were awesome to work with. He called back within minutes and we had his bid an hour or two later. After 4 other bids we ultimately went with Ed because he helps his crew on the roof. They do excellent work and the clean-up was great too. Roof was done in two days. Highly recommend Ed."

"I had a small upstairs unfinished deck. The floor and walls were never fully finished, there were two loosely fit windows and there was a door. I gave Five Star a picture of how I wanted the end result to look, and they were able to do it excellently. Basically, they took out the door, insulated that area, put new hardwood flooring in, installed one new sturdy window, fixed the siding on the outside of the house, and refinished the walls with paint. At an extra cost(included in the final cost)they also re-sheet rocked and painted the remaining walls of the upstairs hallway so they matched the remodeling job. My upstairs has more light coming in now and the old deck is now a part of the inside of the house. Five Star called me after they came to give me an estimate on the work that I wanted. They followed up with calls to me seeing if I wanted to pursue them, which I appreciated. Dan/Paul were always easy to reach and they returned calls promptly. It was easy to add changes(although, make sure you get these in writing)and to ask questions. I had a ton of questions and they were always happy to answer them. I liked how they wanted me to be 100% satisfied with the work before I paid the remaining portion of the bill. They were very friendly and highly professional. The work they did is incredible! The upstairs is exactly the way I wanted it and it looks gorgeous! The only thing that did not go as planned was the time frame. The contract said it would originally be completed at the end of September. In December, they were making final completions. This wasn't a big issue for me, as I was flexible but it may have been for someone else."
