I originally obtained an estimate from them to perform tree trimming of 1 large Japanese Cherry tree in the front yard, 2 large Holly trees on the side, and to completely remove a small Magnolia and Spruce in the back.  The "Deal" was $199 for $400 of tree service, so I expected the estimate to be over the $400 covered by the Deal- but I wasn't expecting it to be for $1400!  Thinking this was too high I requested an estimate from a different arborist, and they came in with an estimate of $750, including  trimming a third Holly tree not in the original estimate.  Thus, by going with a different arborist for the original work I saved $450, including the $199 already sunk on the Deal.

Having already paid for the Deal, I re-contacted the Deal provider and got them to come out and perform what they deemed to be $400 of tree trimming to complete the original contract- which turned out to be minor pruning of a small Japanese Maple and removing some dead limbs from a small cherry tree in the back yard.  There work was professional and courteous, and they cleaned up the debris, but I felt that the level of effort provided was less than I had hoped for and expected when I originally contracted for the Deal.

My overall impression is that making a deal for an unspecified effort "$400 of tree service" is probably not a very wise decision- too open ended and vague.  The contract needs to be for a specified act (installing a disposal) not a level of effort, in order to avoid any confusion.
