"Ted came out to my home and listened to the ideas I had for the master bath Remodel. He made some great suggestions to improve the design. The cabinets were timely delivered. The quality of the cabinets was excellent. When he saw an imperfection he took it upon himself to correct it before I had a chance to ask. His installers were professional and curtious. <br />"

"They replaced our entire roof with architectural shingles. The work was done quickly (this process took less than one day) and the new shingles look amazing. The spring was very wet, and we have not had a single issue with our new roof."

"Robert (Bob) Kelly is a cabinet and furniture maker native to southern Washington County, MD. Over the past 6 years we have had Bob do numerous cabinet projects for us, and a bit of furniture repair. Bob's work is top-shelf, but his rates are competitive with what others are charging to do lesser quality work. <br /> After a bad experience with a cabinet-maker in Mercersburg, PA (long, sad story). A friend told me about Bob's shop in Keedysville (just down the road from us). Bob has been doing this work for all of his adult life and has the skills that can only be acquired from decades of work mastering a trade. We had Bob first build us a set of custom cabinets for our kitchen out of natural finished American Cherry. We live in a historic pre Civil War home and wanted a classic look and therefore designed framed cabinets with inset doors. We also had Bob bead the frames and use shaker-style paneled doors. The result was fantastic, and everyone just loves our kitchen. It just fits into the space like it's always been there, yet has all the features that you would expect from a modern set of cabinets. <br /> Bob has always been very receptive to our ideas when planning all of our projects, and there is a sort of synergy that takes place between customer and craftsman that leads to a superior finished product. Since the completion of the kitchen we have also had Bob do some built-in cabinets for our living room, an office, and most recently a corner cupboard for our den. <br /> ...There must be something else here we can have him build!"

"<p>They were recommended by a contractor for our small galley kitchen. Rick came out and gave some GREAT advice on what to do and what not to do. Gave us ideas on how not to waste our money. We had literally gone around the beltway to find someone who would take the time to listen to our needs and give advice without being pressured into buying something we didn't need. We ended up with HK as they had in my opinion  the best looking natural cherry cabinets. The wood just seemed richer and more real than the other showrooms we visited. I originally thought I would want painted cabinets but once I saw the display in the showroom  I changed my mind. Rick was patient as we chopped and changed but in the end it came right. Before we signed the contract he went over each cabinet in detail. Their lead time is 8 weeks so plan accordingly but well worth the wait. Check only for payment too.Delivery was made as scheduled. They look amazing and we can't wait to see them installed. I will post some pictures when the kitchen is complete. </p> <p>Hagerstown is out of the way for folks in DC but you should visit it before making a decision that you have to live with for a while!</p> <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Hagerstown, MD

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
