"After contacting two other companies unsuccessfully, I called Mitigation Tech and they came out the same day to meet with me. <br /> The owner was very professional and thorough and assured me that the system would do the job. As promised, a well-written and detailed contract for my approval came that day and the work was done as scheduled. <br /> The guy who did the work was thorough, neat and polite. <br /> Best of all, the test that was done after the system was installed came back with radon levels that were 0.2! Not bad since 3 earlier tests put the levels at between 11 and 17. I am amazed and thoroughly satisfied. <br />"

"After a home inspection I was told that I needed to <br /> remediate a ?black substance? aka mold from the roof of my attic crawl space. <br /> The black stain covered most of the plywood and some rafters. I was told it was <br /> probably due to poor ventilation. <br /> I had less than two months to remediate before closing. This <br /> was a first for me so knowing where to begin and who to call was the most <br /> difficult decision to make. Not many people talk about mold in their home so <br /> finding a contractor was going to be a challenge. <br /> I went right to Angieslist and started looking and I came <br /> across Enzyme Life Sciences. I read the many reviews and saw pictures from one <br /> customer who had the same issue I had. There were before and after pictures of <br /> the job performed. I thought if my roof sheathing could look like that I would be happy. <br /> So I called and talked to Mike Partlow who understood my problem and he talked <br /> me through three part process of cleaning the mold and removing the stain. Mike <br /> is out in Albany but has trained contractors throughout the NYS region so being <br /> in Buffalo was not an issue. I talked with a few other contractors and some <br /> were either booked for the next few months or were on vacation ? (during <br /> December). Ultimately, I decided to go with Enzymes Life Sciences and I?m so <br /> glad I did. Within a week, Mike sent out a gentleman named Scott who cleansed <br /> the mold from the attic. The attic looked clean as promised. Mike also gives a <br /> 5 year warranty that is transferrable to the new owners which was very <br /> advantageous when adding it to the amended home contract with the buyers. <br /> Mike also stuck with me after the job checking in with me to make <br /> sure the sale was going through with the cleansing completed. That's one other thing <br /> to look for when shopping for a contractor; Mike is there for you and stands behind his work. <br /> Finally, the house closed on schedule within a few days of the final inspection. <br /> I can?t say enough about Enzyme Life Sciences, if you need to get rid of any <br /> mold in your home Mike is your guy. <br />"

"Alan was punctual, friendly and thorough. He was happy to educate and seemed knowledgeable about older homes. Final report (about 42 pages) generated on the premises; he called later with the results of the radon testing. Price was average/comparable. My only critique is that the final report is a little difficult to read and couched with disclaimers and 'CYA' statements, but I'm guessing that this is par for the course. <br />"

"During a conversion from a 2-family to a single-family home, the gas pipe to the dryer in the basement was overlooked and not connected to the gas lines associated with the remaining gas meter. Z&R connected the dryer to the gas line. They also removed a newer kitchen faucet from the 2nd floor kitchen sink and installed it onto the first floor kitchen sink. Additionally, the replaced the water shut-offs on the 2nd floor sink so that I could demo that sink and counter area entirely. They had the work done within a few hours. All of this was done 9 months ago, and I haven't had a single issue since then."

"Doug suspected extensive roof damage in the first property, found moisture content in the interior walls, and mold growth in an enclosed porch, all likely the result of a leaky roof. The exterior brick facade had also been neglected to the point that the masonry work above every exterior window had to be re-pointed. Doug showed us his areas of concern but wisely deferred to experts, highly encouraging us to seek experts for the roof and masonry work. I took his suggestion, and roof and mason experts also inspect the property. They confirmed Doug' suspicions and gave us a better picture of the full extent of the work. Doug was professional and thorough, he arrived on time and spent almost four hours inspecting the property. After each section of the inspection was completed, he went over his findings and explained them to make sure I understood the issues and what his recommendations were. I was not present for the second inspection conducted by Bill Pappis, but he gladly met my father and conducted himself with the same punctuality and professionalism as Doug previously had. Bill did stop by the property a few days before the inspection to drop off the Radon kit, so that the results were ready by the day of the inspection which was a pleasant surprise. The HomeBook turned out to be more valuable than I original expected. It's great to know you spent $400 and have the HomeBook as your home reference for now and in the future when repairs or upgrades have to be completed."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Hamburg, NY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
