"Jason did an awesome job of installing our carpet. He was very respectful, came each day on time and let us know what to expect for the following days. He finished on time and even brought in some furniture that was delivered by UPS. He was a very nice person to work with and the price of the carpet was quite reasonable and the quality is great. I would recommend Carpet Classics!"

"Sergy kept me informed throughout the repair and restoration of our 1950s era red oak floors. He was accurate and upfront with his estimate and any additional costs; such as replacing damaged boards. He always consulted me to make sure that I understood and agreed before doing any additional repairs. It was so nice to work with an honest, hardworking, and expert craftsman who does beautiful work for a fair price. We're very happy with our restored floors, and also that we chose Hardwood Floor Specialist."

"This is my second time in about 2.5 years working with Rick C. at Macadams Flooring & Design. Our project included tile, hardwood flooring, and carpet. MF&D are very professional, valuable guidance, good advice and are human. They listen well, work tight deadlines, and they are problem solvers. Great communications coming from all the teams... Overall, a really great experience and value. Andre M., their tile expert, was outstanding. He arrived exactly on time, came fully prepared, and demonstrated exceptional skill and focus throughout the job. His work ethic truly stood out, Andre takes pride in what he does and it shows. Kenneth T."

"Actual carpet cleaning was fine. The service was an issue. Did not wear a mask when he entered the house and had to be asked to wear a mask. Then he took it off while cleaning. He also didn't have shoe coverings and tracked in some dirt."

"We dealt with Koeber's in the past when replacing bathroom flooring and were very pleased. Based on our experience, we turned to them to replace our existing 1,000 square feet of laminate and tile downstairs flooring. The business is relatively small family owned and dealing with them feels that way - everyone was very helpful in helping us decide which type of flooring best met our needs. We did not price shop - based on reviews and our previous experience, we chose what we felt was the best option for our work. On the negative side, the installation queue was 8 weeks out - not a problem for us but might be an issue if you had to have it done tomorrow. The installation took 4 days and they were able to float the flooring material over our existing floor with no transition required - even though we used a different pattern in our kitchen area. The installers (John/Kevin) were extremely polite, moved all of our furniture, worked around our PC so it did not need to be disconnected, and were extremely tidy. We are quite pleased with the flooring and our dealings with Koeber's. Shopping around might get you a better price but our chief criterion was quality and dependability - and we were not disappointed."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Portland, OR

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
