"Nicholas Carpet Care saved the day again! Our beagle stay with a pup sitter who must have fed her too many treats! Woke up to messes in THREE different rooms. Called Nicholas Carpet Care and they were able to fit me into their schedule within the week. Don cleaned up the messes and was courteous and professional. I highly recommend this fabulous company!"

"After going to Lowe's in Tigard (and being given the bait and switch action...you get the whole house for one price...except this and this and oh, by the way you will need to pay extra at the dump for hazardous waste because you had some animal urine on your carpet. I had taken all of that carpet up, trashed it and put Kilz Maxx down on the floor. Which works really well.) we went to Home Depot where we received a more professional approach but still weren't sure what to do. Lots of research on the internet pointed to avoiding Big Box stores so we went to Carpet Classics. Jim is extremely knowledgeable, professional, customer service oriented and easy to work with. Jim came out to do measurements, called to remind us of the install date and called after the install to see how we liked it. The installer, Don Roberts, was an ace. He did a beautiful and timely job in our home. He kept the work area as clean as possible everyday. He vacuumed as he went and made sure that he didn't track dirt in other areas of the house. He and his support person, Zack were careful with our furniture that needed to be moved. I'm kind of OCD person and his seems and edges are terrific. I only have high praise for Don and Jim."

"The work was done well with great attention to detail.  From ordering through installation, the project was a complete success. Replacing old carpet and installing new wood flooring does create dust, but nothing exceptional and the installers made every attempt to minimize the dust and reduce the dislocation the project created."

"Dave and his crew really came through for us. We had pre-purchased carpet for a remodeled attic about a year earlier that needed to be installed. When the crew came to Install the carpet they let us know that we did not buy enough carpet to finish the job. Dave and his team installed what they could and then squeezed us into their packed schedule a week later after we purchased the remaining carpet. The crew was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Our carpet looks great and we are glad we found Pannell Floors!"

"Mike returned my calls promptly and came out to do a measure. We ordered the carpet from Overstock Flooring Depot in Tualatin, (also a good experience). Mike picked it up and came to our home as scheduled. It took 2 days for installation because of the amount of space, including stairs. He was great to work with, the price was right. He did a great job. We had gotten another estimate which was quite a bit higher and were discouraged to the point of almost not doing it. I was very glad I checked Angie's List and found Mike. We will be buying another home and if it needs carpet, we will call on Mike again. <br />"

"We have used Carpets by Rex many times over the years and ALWAYS receive the same great (and personal) service. This time we did an addition on our house and since we have used him before (he does all the work himself- no hired guys) there was no question about getting any other bids. We knew going in that the carpet would be exactly as agreed and the carpet pad would be better than the standard offered by others ~ no shortcuts. He gave us a quote for the carpet job we wanted, showed up on the day he said (early as usual) and proceeded to do the job. When completed he had us check out his work. Like I said, we have used him over the years for both our home and our business carpet needs. He takes pride in his work and it shows. <br />"

"We unfortunately had a small section of engineered hardwood flooring damaged due to a plumbing leak; less than 8 sq. ft. I contacted multiple contractors to get a quote and Sergey was the only one who responded. No one else wanted to deal with such a small repair project. He came out to review the situation and discuss the challenges of getting it right, especially since we only had a few pieces of material to work with that we saved from the original install 11 years ago. This was a very tricky, surgical repair with little room for error. Sergey arrived on time the day we agreed upon, we again discussed the risks if something went wrong, and he got to work. He removed a small section to evaluate how the pieces were glued to the concrete flooring. From there, we decided to move forward. He set up shop, was extremely organized and thoughtful to keep the area clean and dust free. The finished work is excellent! Not a single error or mishap. Sergey was professional, accommodating, and a true craftsman. I am very appreciative that he did not turn away the job given it's size and difficulty."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Portland, OR

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
