Customers say: Quick response

"The quality of the build was excellent. The builder was always available to answer questions and proved any information needed. All materials used were high quality and specific to the plans of the home. Attention to details was excellent and oversight of sub contractors was always a priority. The finished home is exactly as we expected. Over all rating is 5 star."

"Robert and his crew did some extensive remodeling for my needs. He installed a new full bathroom, remodeled one bathroom for wheelchair access, and remodeled a third bathroom. His crew installed new tile floors, and repaired the old tile floors. They installed wide doors exterior doors to accommodate wheelchair. And they enclosed a patio into an insulated sun-room. Robert was easy to work with, and was real reasonable. He also did a lot of work under Veterans Administration and ADA guidelines and was qualified and approved to do veteran Adapted Housing. I highly recommend Robert and his crew."

"These people are gems. Having arrived in Texas with no contacts and lots of remodeling plans I can't thank Angie's List and Velasquez Remodeling enough! Rosa is the business end, Carlos and his teams do the labor and do it exceedingly well. They know textures, wallboard, tiling and can work wonders. I suspect Carlos knows a lot more English than he lets on, too. Tireless and reliable workers, very neat both as they work and after the job is done. We will use them on a continuing basis and do so with confidence."

"It went very smooth, Clint and Kiri started promptly. covered carpet in the bedroom to cut down on mess from demolition. Cleaned up every day. Listened to what my Dad wanted, understood what he wanted, made suggestions, tried to save costs as much as possible. Very easy to work with. Very friendly and very conscientious. We are planning future remodels and plan to hire them. Other than roofing contractors, the Howard's are the first repeat contractor we have ever used."

"I have had Donald and DJ  Powers do jobs for me before and was completely satisfied with their work. They are very professional and always prompt so this time when I needed work done I called them and they  arrived right on schedule to begin  work on my guest house, we had at some point had water damage and as a result the walls were beginning to mold. They killed the mold and then remodeled the entire house, beginning with the removal of popcorn acoustics from the ceiling, painting, installing new floor, air conditioner and water heater.  They helped us pick out new paint, doors, windows, light fixtures and flooring and stayed on budget for the job .Donald  and DJ are THE best and for the quality work they do are very reasonably  priced. I will definitely hire them for future jobs. <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Harker Heights, TX

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
