"My service tech, Jordan Foy, called promptly in the morning and arrived right on schedule. He was friendly, knowledgeable and did a great job installing my sump pump and the underground line. He made sure I approved of what he was going to do each step of the way. He was also very nice to my golden retriever puppy who wanted to be his assistant. I will be using Ayers Basement Systems again for additional work on my basement next spring."

"Miller Building Company is the most professional remodeling company I have had the pleasure to work with.  I hired Miller Building Company to finish a bathroom update and I had initially hired a 'handyman' to do.  I let the handyman go when the quality of work left much to be desired.  Miller Building Company is very detail oriented and worked with me to finish the job to my satisfaction.  Miller Building was always on time and kept me informed throughout the job.  They take the extra steps needed to get the job done, get it done right, on time and on budget.  They were respectful of my home and took extra care to minimize disruption caused by construction.  Each person I interacted with from Miller Building was polite and professional. <br />"

"Tom and his assistant Ron arrived early and are very pleasant to deal with. They always cleaned up any mess they made immediately and left things neat and tidy. Tom gave his opinion regarding material purchase and cost and I am confident that, because of his knowledge, I got the best price possible. I am extremely happy with all of the work completed and would hire him again without a doubt. <br />"

"<br /> We have a modest lake home and ran into some zoing issues with our township that presented some unforeseen challenges. Charlie did much of the legwork and went above and beyond to help us get the project within acceptable guidelines. <br /> <br /> The remodel required tearing down an existing structure but leaving enough foundation to satisfy our township rules. The job included some concrete work, custom framing, new windows and doors and siding installation. They hauled away all old material and kept a neat work area. Charlie and his crew, Charlie (II), Richie and "Maynard" were ALWAYS timely and professional. They worked long, full days and always kept us advised if there were schedule changes and/or other issues. Charlie's meticulous attention to detail was amazing. We would trust these guys with ANY work in, on or around our home. <br />"

"Bruce arrived to start the job on time and is quite methodical, with everything going in the right order. He has the tools to do ANYTHING and completely filled our 2 car garage with tools, materials, cabinets, etc. Since everything was replaced, he had to use skills on so many levels, including dry wall, insulation, flooring, electrical, plumbing, granite work, painting, heating, etc. I think he truly excels at molding/trim work and the cabinet installing. Perfection. An example of true attention to detail: Since they had to cut into our floor joists (beneath the bathroom) to accommodate new drain systems, Bruce took it upon himself to find a local metal fabricator to create steel U-shaped supports so that our floor remained as strong as before. Some people would have left that out.... He wanted things to be correct and often asked for our approval...making any changes we requested along the way. He is approachable. He had a great, professional introduction the first day we met and proposed a budget. Why we did not give Bruce all A's---and if there is any down side---it would be a rather severe minimizing of the total amount of time needed for the project. As a builder, he is hard to fault in that we did stick to our agreed budget and if he was working for weeks beyond the planned completion time...well, it was not costing us any more. I believe Bruce to be a very honest person and understand that any building project has delays. Toward the end, as another project became reality, I believe Bruce lost some focus here. That said, we are happy with our finished bathroom and make a positive recommendation. Your Designs LLC can be trusted. ((I am having trouble porting over pictures...sorry...if I can add them later, I will. For now, I can say I think it looks just as we planned...and this company delivered!))"

"<p>Very well. I was given an estimate, was called a couple of days before they came to start and the workers were very friendly and polite.. The job was finished promptly and our site was left clean. Nails and old asphalt all cleaned up. The new roof has been good, looks good and is not noisy. I like it.</p> <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Harrison, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
