"They came quickly and took samples to test crawl space for asbestos. Results were back ASAP. Pricing was a bit expensive for what was only a few minutes in home."

"The company sent a packet with instructions to provide samples from two sites. We returned these in the Priority envelope provided. Within a few days we received an evaluation of the mold. It does not appear to be a serious problem. I would have graded this work higher if the company had provided general guidelines for remediating the problem. We were relieved to find the problem not serious, but would have appreciated more clarity, such as a simple page outlining safe and unsafe do-it-yourself procedures materials materials. (Suggestions I found online, such as whether to use vinegar, bleach, etc., were sometimes confusing, even contradictory.)"

"Carlos came out and took some samples and had them sent back to a lab in Richmond. He called back in the allotted time he said he would and luckily the test results were negative. No further action required. He estimated about $1200 for the job if it woul dhave required to be taken out and said there was also a fee from another company of about $300 to test the air after the work was completed, which aligns to the other estimates I received. He knocked off 25$ from the testing since he was able to get the samples so easily. Very nice guy and very professional. <br />"

"During home inspection on the house we are selling, radon tested above acceptable level. Commonwealth provided an estimate of work to be done and cost. They retested, determined it needed mitigation, drilled a neat hole in basement floor, installed pipe that led to outside, fan, arranged for electrician, retested, and provided report - levels very good."

"They showed up early, and did the work well. It was a little more expensive than planned but the work is keeping up well. It cost almost $200 a year to have them come up to clean and maintain the project. I would recommend them to other people, but I would also advise to do research and make sure this project is what you really want."

"I am so happy with the way Chris and his team handled my mold remediation and water damage. The initial damage looked fairly small. However as they investigated, it was much larger than I thought. They kept me informed every step of the way and still answered my numerous calls. I was anxious to come back home and they understood this and explained that the drying process has to be at a certain level before the equipment could be removed. I also received an education regarding certifications in this field. I initially called another company and it appears that had no certification and did not find the source of my damage. So glad I chose Restoration 1 of Charlottesville."

FAQs for mold & toxic material test projects in Harrisonburg, VA

Some companies offer a no‑cost phone or video consultation that screens for red flags. If the discussion points to a real issue, the pro will recommend a paid on‑site inspection. The complimentary call clarifies whether you need full testing, but it isn’t a substitute for samples, lab work, or a written report. Always confirm what the free service covers before you schedule.

A standard inspection, which includes basic air and surface samples, takes an average of two hours. If the pro needs to probe hidden spaces, such as wall cavities or ductwork, plan on up to six hours. Extra time allows the inspector to reach tight areas, collect additional samples, and document findings. Lab analysis is a separate process and often adds several business days to the overall timeframe before you receive the full report.

Mold thrives where moisture lingers and air flow is poor. Common hotspots include bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, window sills, HVAC vents, fireplaces, crawl spaces, and enclosed attics. Check these areas regularly—especially after leaks or high‑humidity weather—to catch growth early and avoid costly repairs.

Unchecked mold can knock 20% to 37% off a home’s market value because buyers worry about hidden damage and health risks. Even after remediation, visible staining or a history of major moisture issues can still lower offers and prolong the time on the market. Addressing mold quickly protects both your property’s structural integrity and its resale appeal.
